Inspiring Conversations with Lindsay Kennedy of Dolcetto, Cheese, & Specialty Goods

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Kennedy.

Hi Lindsay, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am Lindsay Kennedy, the owner of Dolcetto, Cheese, & Specialty Goods in Farmington. Dolcetto was born from the belief that great food shouldn’t feel intimidating. I’ve always loved how food has the power to bring people together, and I wanted to create a place where guests could discover incredible cheeses, wines, and specialty foods without needing to be an expert.

What started as a dream has grown into a community. Today, we are known for our curated products, educational experiences, and helping people create meaningful moments around the table. Every decision we make, from the products we carry to the stories we share, is rooted in supporting small producers and making exceptional food approachable and fun.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like any small business, the road has been anything but predictable. My own health delayed my path for many years and over the years we’ve weathered everything from supply chain disruptions and tariffs to changing consumer habits and rising costs.

What has made the difference is our community. We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have guests who intentionally support small businesses and our team shows up with heart every day. Even during uncertain times, we’ve found that sharing good food creates connection. There is something special about watching people gather around a cheese board, celebrate life’s milestones, or simply slow down for a moment. Being able to create those moments, even in the middle of chaos, is what keeps us moving forward.

As you know, we’re big fans of Dolcetto, Cheese, & Specialty Goods. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Dolcetto is a specialty cheese, wine, and gourmet food shop, but at its heart, we’re in the business of creating connections. We believe great food has a way of bringing people together, whether it’s a Tuesday night dinner, a milestone celebration, or a quiet evening at home.

We’re known for thoughtfully curating products from small producers, sharing the stories behind what we carry, and making artisan food approachable. We want every guest, whether they’re buying their first wedge of cheese or planning an elaborate charcuterie board, to feel welcomed and confident.

What I’m most proud of is the community we’ve built. Over the years, Dolcetto has become more than a place to shop. It’s become a place to learn, discover something new, celebrate life’s moments, and connect with others. If someone leaves feeling inspired, a little more curious, and excited to gather around the table, then we’ve done our job.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I wish someone had told me that the hardest parts of owning a business wouldn’t be the things I expected. The paperwork and spreadsheets are only a small piece of the job. One day you’re painting the employee bathroom because a shelf collapsed, and the next you’re sitting with a longtime guest who just lost someone they love.

My biggest advice is to stay adaptable. No matter how carefully you plan, things will change. Markets shift, unexpected challenges arise, and your role will constantly evolve. If you keep your eyes, your mind, and your heart open, you’ll be better equipped to care for both your business and the people who make it what it is.
