Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauryn Jordan.
Hi Lauryn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Ever since I was a young child, I knew I wanted to have my own business. I just did not know exactly what kind of business I wanted have. As I look back over my journey to becoming an Esthetician, I can see now, that there were many signs of what kind of business I would eventually end up running. Starting with my mom and I and how much we loved to give each other facials, do our makeup, nails, and hair, I even enjoyed watching and sometimes even helping my dad shave. On the occasions when me and my mom we were able to go to a spa or salon, I never forgot how special we both felt during our times together there.
However, it was during my senior year of high school when my life got turned upside down. When my mom suddenly past away from a pulmonary embolism. Suddenly the world that I knew and loved was gone. My mom and I had already completed my college tours and I had been accepted into Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida, but I didn’t know what to do, I was lost.
But with the help of my dad, family members, and my church, I decided I would press on and try my best to stay on track. So, immediately after graduating high school, I went directly to college to pursue a business degree.
While the college experience was fine, I was still filling deeply unfulfilled and confused about what I really wanted to do with my life. Until, after a long week of final exams, when my friends and I decided to treat ourselves to a spa. It was there when I immediately realized that this is where I remembered being my happiest, where I felt my deepest spiritual connection with my mom again. I knew, at that very moment that I had finally found my purpose and my passion.
So, I took some time off and eventually enrolled in Aveda Institute and became a licensed Esthetician while I was living in Florida. Today, I am an entrepreneur, owning and operator of my own beauty business, called Forever Beauty Co. Inc. Now, I happily say I have never felt more fulfilled, spiritually connected to my mom, and passionate about making my clients feel special.
Not only is skin care my purpose and my passion, building relationships with my clients and making them feel as though they are the only thing that matters in the world during the time, they are with me, is the biggest part of why I love what I do.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey to where I am today has neither been a straight path nor a smooth road. When I moved back to Michigan in November 2019 ready to start my business, I learned that I had to retake the state board exams in Michigan because my Florida State License was not fully reciprocal. Additionally, not long after my return to Michigan COVID hit and because they said my business was not essential, I was not allowed to open my business. So, I had to wait a year before I could find a suitable location to run my business out of. Once I was able to open, it was clear that people were desperate for many of the skin and body care services that I offered, but they were still leery with COVID continuing to spread as it was.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Forever Beauty Co, I specialize in body waxing and eyebrows. I would say a big part of what sets me apart from other businesses is my technique, my ability to empathize with my clients and make them feel as comfortable as possible. I try to be very understanding and appreciative that my clients have chosen me to do business with. I am most proud of my ability to produce great work while also maintaining my clientele and giving them a great experience. I research all of the products I use ensuring the best quality for my brand and even offer vegan product options for facials while also trying to remain affordable.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I have never really had a single mentor per se. I have been blessed to have a network of family members and friends that work in the beauty industry. I have also had the good fortune being able to talk with my dad, who is a retired senior executive who worked on state and national levels. So, for me, I feel like networking has been the key to my business success. I feel strongly that if I continue to put myself out there, more opportunities will come my way. allowing me to broaden my network and grow my business.
