Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Keller.
Hi Laura, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always had that entrepreneurial drive to build something of my own—something that I truly love—alongside my full-time career. Over the years, I explored a few different ideas, but nothing quite clicked. That all changed when friends started consistently raving about my cookies. That was when I realized I might be onto something worth pursuing.
One night while scrolling TikTok, I came across cake decorating videos—specifically cookie cake decorating—and instantly felt inspired. I thought, why not try this myself? After doing some research, I realized there really weren’t any businesses in my area offering fully custom cookie cakes the way I envisioned them. Aside from mall stores with limited options, there was a clear gap for something more personalized and elevated.
So, I took a chance. I headed to Hobby Lobby, picked up a few basic essentials, and gave it a shot—and I was immediately hooked.
At first, I experimented with different cookie recipes, but ultimately, I stayed true to the recipe I’ve been perfecting for over 10 years. Over the course of the year, I recruited my friends and family as my unofficial taste testers. Their honest feedback helped me fine-tune every detail, from flavor to texture. I truly believe I’ve found that perfect balance—just the right amount of sweetness where you don’t feel overwhelmed after one bite but instead keep coming back for more.
What I love most about Baby Got Batch Cookie Co. is the connection I get to build with my clients. They trust me to be part of some of life’s most special moments—birthdays, graduations, celebrations—and I get to bring their vision to life in a creative and meaningful way.
I couldn’t have started this without my biggest supporter—my husband—who has jumped in as everything from my helper to my delivery driver when needed. His encouragement has meant everything as I’ve grown this business.
Looking ahead, I can absolutely see Baby Got Batch Cookie Co. continuing to evolve and grow. What started as a passion project has quickly turned into something so much more, and I’m excited to see where it goes.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like starting any new business, there were definitely challenges—especially in those early stages of getting everything off the ground. From perfecting the cookie cakes, to investing in the right tools, to figuring out pricing that made sense, there was a lot of learning along the way.
One of the biggest challenges for me was truly perfecting the cakes themselves. I’ve always had a creative mindset, but I’m also a perfectionist. If something didn’t meet my standards, I had no problem starting over—even if that meant redoing an entire cake. And honestly, I’ve had to do that more than once.
While it could be frustrating at times, that mindset pushed me to improve with every bake. It helped me refine both my technique and my designs, and ultimately played a huge role in getting my products to the level they are today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Baby Got Batch Cookie Co., I create custom cookie cakes that are designed to bring a personal and creative touch to any celebration. What sets my business apart is not only offering a cookie as the base, but the ability to fully customize each order—whether it’s a specific theme, color palette, or message—so every cake feels unique to the client and their event.
I pair that creativity with my 14+ year old cookie recipe, focusing just as much on flavor as I do on design. My goal is to create something that not only looks beautiful, but tastes just as good—something people genuinely enjoy from the first bite to the last.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I’ve been fortunate to find mentors through the relationships I’ve built. I’ve learned that being open to feedback, asking questions, and surrounding myself with people who have more experience has been incredibly valuable. Some of my biggest growth has come from people who were willing to share their knowledge and encourage me along the way.
