Inspiring Conversations with Kelly Young of My TCBD

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Young.

Hi Kelly, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my journey into cannabinoids in 2015 as a hobbyist, selling CBD lotion and sharing it with everyone I encountered. Seeing people experience amazing results was incredibly rewarding—it felt good to help others feel good.

In 2017, I left my family grocery store business and began founding my cannabis businesses. In 2017, I launched Graceful Mobility, a mobile extraction business that whose mission was to help the pot farmer maximize the profit margins. As I learned more about what I was making, I realized that I needed to help them achieve a competitive edge with an expanded product line so I researched and learned how to make vape pens, edibles, and topicals.

In 2018, I founded My TCBD and launched my CBD brand. In 2019, I sprouted my own seeds and grew a small hemp field as well as founding Free Relief which was a 501c3 registered non-profit focused on gifting non-psychoactive cannabinoid THCA to veterans and cancer patients.

In 2019, I also drafted the marijuana ordinance for the Village of Central Lake and successfully won that ballot measure by 1 vote which then prompted the national attention surrounding election fraud. I opened Torch Cannabis Co, Antrim County’s 1st adult use marijuana dispensary on November 17, 2021. Then in 2022, I completed building out a highly specialized manufacturing facility for processing cannabis and launched my brand Torch Cannabis Co in August of 2022.

Bringing my vision to life as the owner of Antrim County’s first adult-use marijuana retail establishment in Downtown Central Lake has been an incredible journey. My purpose is deeply rooted in helping our clients understand how to use these products effectively to feel their best. Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not even close.
I left my family business after discovering tax fraud and that I was under financial entrapment. My brother was involved, my father looked the other way, and when I walked away to protect what we’d built, they disowned me.
That loss led to a moment on my boat on Torch Lake that changed everything. I was reading The Power of Now when I felt a presence beside me. I opened my eyes and saw Jesus—ethereal, unmistakable. He told me I wasn’t brought back to run a bank or a grocery store. He said I was a healer.
So I tried again. My brother and I bought a rundown grocery store, but he kept spending money we didn’t have. When I left, they forced a buyout and blamed me for the failure.
I took two old buildings from that deal and turned them into a marijuana dispensary. I drafted the ordinance, won the ballot by one vote, and fought off a corrupt board member trying to take my permit. I won the lawsuit, but it cost me my first profitable summer.
Then I got conned. Five men (one I’d known for decades) convinced my business partner to loan them $500K and us another $250K for equipment. They never built what they promised. I had debt, equipment, and no building.
I found a pole barn, rebuilt from scratch, and launched my brand in August 2022. Two months later, the Michigan cannabis market collapsed. A year after investing over $1M, I had to close my manufacturing facility.
But here’s what I know now…the obstacles aren’t the end of the story. They’re preparation for what’s next. I’m planning to reopen and develop the property into holistic healing retreats—because that’s what the vision was always pointing toward. Something so much bigger.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about My TCBD?
I own 2 companies:

My TCBD – my CBD company, and I can ship to almost any state. I make zero THC products that are custom formulated for sleep, pain, anxiety and depression, sex and even hot flashes and anti-aging and weight loss products.

Torch Cannabis Co – my THC company. I only sell THC derived from the marijuana plant. All of my products are full-spectrum, so they contain all of the cannabinoids, terepenes, phytocannabinoids, lipids, etc. It’s crazy I even have to distinguish that now, but it’s the sad reality only operators and producers know. The reason is that most of the producers making cannabis products are no longer making the oil from the plant, they are just buying THC from a lab. Don’t get me wrong, there are some good operators out there but even Jim Belushi’s national sales managers told me he only buys products from small shops like mine because we actually care about what we sell to people.

I am also building more spokes to my wheel for companies and having them compliment each other. This includes launching Torch Holistic Clinic which offers energy healing, and many other all natural healing modalities.

Then lastly, I am starting a new movement called “NoMi Sober”
NoMi Sober is like cali-sober, wherein it’s using herbs and plants like cannabis while abstaining from alcohol and other non-plant based substances. The other part of my story I forgot to put in the beginning is that I went to Costa Rica to Rythmia Life Advancement Center to do Auywasca. My goal was to quit smoking cigarettes, otherwise I was going to die from HPV progressing to cervical cancer. Doing the medicine showed me trauma of being sexually molested by my aunts boyfriend Jerry, as well as another incident that happened when I was younger with the baptist minister. Once I saw the traumas, I was able to move beyond the self harm behaviors I was stuck in a rut of. This December, I celebrate 9 years cigarette free, 8 years alcohol free.

That is why I promote s recovery based holistic approach to helping people feel their best. Giving back and helping people feel loved, heard and supported is what I choose to focus on, one day at a time.
