Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylee Lockwood.
Hi Kaylee, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I have been involved with retail sales since I graduated high school. I found a love for helping people find the perfect outfit or gift when I started working in a mall store back in 2006. I really enjoyed when customers would come back to the store and I knew exactly what they would want because we had created a rapport. After switching jobs, I quickly realized I sorely missed selling and creating relationships. An opportunity presented itself to me to start selling clothes on my own terms and I did that for 6.5 years. I worked many in-home pop-ups, sold online, converted a big truck into a mobile boutique, and even built a house specifically for a space to have an in-home boutique. This worked well for me for a few years while my kids were young and then my current storefront was available for lease and it just seemed like the right time to move forward with a brick-and-mortar location. The opportunity to own my own store was always a dream and I am so happy I am able to live my dream.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have definitely been ups and downs, but the ups outweigh the downs in the grand scheme of things. I have learned that every problem has a solution, even if it’s not the solution you may have first planned on.
As you know, we’re big fans of R3vel Threads. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
R3vel Threads is a boutique that offers gifts, clothing, and accessories. We work incredibly hard to offer the best customer service. When people come to my store, I want them to feel welcomed, safe, and included. I have been to too many stores where I felt like my worth was only my dollar and that’s just not the case here. My favorite thing is when a customer comes back and we can remember what they like and dislike and provide a truly special shopping experience. I am proud of my store because it feels very “me.” I am focusing on staying true to myself and brand and offering items that I like and would be proud to wear as well as items I think other people would look amazing in. A lot of thought goes behind every item I choose for the store. I want my customers to feel excited when they find unique items when they shop with R3vel Threads.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I think of perseverance when I think of qualities that have been important to my success as a business owner. We had a family tragedy the week I signed my lease for the store. I questioned if this was right for a long time but decided I needed to use my grief to empower me through this and opening the store was/and is a great outlet for me. I also could not have moved forward if my family didn’t support me as much as they do. I am so thankful for them.
