Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Magaluk.
Hi Kathy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always loved Milford. I moved here as a child, met my husband here, and put down deep roots. In the early 1980s, I opened my first retail venture – a gift shop called “The Village Peddler”. I quickly discovered how much I enjoyed connecting with people in town and sharing something I had a knack for.
Life, of course, had other plans. With three little boys to raise (and eventually a fourth!), I put retail on hold to focus on my family. Years later, as my youngest was finishing high school, I found myself ready for a new chapter. By then, my love of cooking and entertaining had truly blossomed, and I began to dream about opening a store again – this time with a focus on kitchen and home goods.
That dream became Acorn Farm, which opened its doors in the Fall of 2008.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My challenges have not been a whole lot different from many others, a recession the year we opened and then Covid — but all and all, major challenges have been few.

Since opening our doors in 2008, Acorn Farm has grown from dabbling in cookware and home goods to becoming the go-to kitchen store in town. We’re proud to offer an extensive selection of everything a home cook could want—from cookware and cutlery to linens, stemware, and a thoughtfully curated collection of home décor.
Some of our most beloved offerings include Polish Pottery, each piece hand-crafted in Bolesławiec, Poland, and our incredible Olivelle line of olive oils, balsamic vinegars, spice blends, and infused salts—customer favorites that inspire endless creativity in the kitchen.
Beyond our products, there’s always something happening at Acorn Farm. From demos and tastings to hands-on classes and what we call our Extraordinary Events, we love giving our customers new ideas, fresh skills, and memorable experiences.
And if I had to choose what truly sets us apart, it’s our staff. We genuinely love working together, and that warmth naturally extends to our customers. When people walk through our doors, they know they’ll be welcomed with a smile, helped promptly, and treated with genuine care. We like to say we have some of the best customers around—and we mean it.
