Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn VanderMeer.
Hi Kaitlyn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
What a crazy journey it has been!
KP Fitness first started in Sept 2021 sharing a physical location with 2 other yoga studios (not long into being open we had our first interview). 20 months later we moved to a small space that was fully our own but much smaller in square footage. Pros to being in our own space, cons to capacity being much much lower! We stayed in our small spot for only 10 months before finding our (hopefully) forever home and where we have been for over 1.5 years! Our new spot- on a main and busy road, numerous rooms, capacity the biggest it has ever been! The fit was perfect for us with minimal construction required.
I started the business on my own, everything from my savings, to create what I could while originally sharing with others. As soon as I was able to take the business to its own location the vibe became more of what I always wanted and knew it needed to be. A true representation of my style and how I wanted my business to feel. Cute but not too cutesy so everyone felt welcome.
In the newest space, the studio has grown to offer numerous wellness opportunities- a variety of styles of yoga, numerous styles of fitness, Thai (Yoga) Massage, and even Red Light Therapy. The biggest difference between our forever home space and the previous spaces- separate rooms (this is so exciting I have to mention it twice!)! We can finally have Thai Massage and/or Red Light Therapy all happening while a class is also taking place- this was HUGE for us as beforehand it was either Thai Massage OR class and there was no Red Light Therapy! I’m so proud of my team stepping up to the new opportunities that were presented and are now our every day life!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Owning a business is never a smooth road.
Looking back each bump in the road was just a learning moment. Are there things I would do differently? Of course. Are we better because of it? 100%!
Most ask if I would do it all again. Honestly? No. But if I had to, I know how I would do it differently from the start!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about KP Fitness?
We are a small yoga and fitness studio offering over 25 weekly classes. We specialize in taking each clients needs into consideration and offering options for everyone no matter where they are on their wellness journey. We are not the type of studio to cram you into the space. We want you to feel comfortable and heard, not just feel like another dollar in the bank account.
We love partnering with other small businesses in the area. KP Fitness really starting by having all the events everywhere. If I can bring yoga to a setting I will! Who knows what combo of possibilities will get someone new to try yoga. And that’s really the biggest goal- to get someone to try something new! We partner with other businesses mostly outside of the studio space but we also love bringing others in! We really try to be as many places as we can be all the time! 🙂
Outside of our weekly classes and monthly special events, we offer Thai (Yoga) Massage and Red Light Therapy available by appointment. Each of these amenities offer a variety of benefits from recovery to relaxation (& so so much more). We are really the only studio in our area offering all wellness in this way- yoga, fitness, Thai (Yoga) Massage, and Red Light Therapy. There is simply no one quite like us!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I feel like at this point my clients know me! I’m an open book if you ask the right questions.
Most people are still surprised to hear that I still work at other studios in town or have jobs (plural) outside of my business. But if you knew me, then it really wouldn’t be a surprise at all! 🙂
As the studio grows and I start to not know everyone as much as those who have been with me from the beginning, people don’t always realize I am technically KP (something I try to not say often). KP- Kaitlyn Peace (yes that is my middle name); the studio is cute because I have an Interior Design degree, and chances are you have met me before at another studio or job (but equally I just have a familiar face)!
