Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin And Elizabeth Pattyn
Hi Justin and Elizabeth , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Justin and Elizabeth met in 1990 in 3rd Grade. In High School, Justin began working in construction with his family, and Elizabeth’s, learning the business, the skills, and the discipline. He has continued on since then. Together, Elizabeth and Justin Founded The Pattyn Group in 2017, The Pattyn Group is Grosse Pointe’s original, and premier residential design and build team, driven by a passion for creating exquisite, bespoke homes for the way you live. We’re more than just builders—we’re neighbors, dreamers, and creators who are passionate about transforming houses into homes.
We are deeply connected to the community having grown up here, and choosing to return and raise our family here. Because of our history here, we’ve seen firsthand how homes shape lives and neighborhoods. That’s why every project we take on is approached with care, respect, and a commitment to enhancing the place we all call home. With more than 25 years of experience in the building world, we pride ourselves on meticulous craftsmanship that you won’t find elsewhere. I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We started The Pattyn Group entirely on our own. Without and backing, without and investors, without a safety net. We have put every minute and every thought into growing the company, while doing so responsibly, and without sacrificing what we think is the the. most important aspect of what we do, the meticulous attention to detail, and deep personal involvement with every project. When COVID hit, we honestly weren’t sure what would become of our company, having started out on our own for only 4 years at that point, and with a 1 year old son, things were very unsure, I think we were all unsure, about a lot of things, not just our company. But, then – the industry exploded. Becoming more than we ever expected. We went from a 3 month client wait, to almost a 2 year wait at one point. We had to learn how to tell people to wait, we weren’t willing to sacrifice our quality and personal attention to try to “grow fast” as we saw so many around us doing. Of course that meant we lost the work of people who weren’t wiling to wait. But, from that we have grown into an even more successful, well balanced, strong company. Those around us who “exploded” during the covid construction boom, and those who “jumped on the bandwagon” are falling around us – but we feel like because we never sacrificed who we were, and what our product is, we have come out better than ever. We continue to grow, face great demand, and even better feedback!

We are the true original design/build company in the Grosse Pointe area. We specialize in creating exquisite, bespoke homes and renovations for our clients. But we are different than the other companies in the area for one key reason, personal one on one attention and attention to detail. We don’t take on more projects that we can handle. We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
We often look at where we find ourselves and say how “lucky we are”. But, we aren’t lucky, we have worked tirelessly, night and day for years to get where we are. I’m sure, there are elements of fate that have given us good fortune, but at the end of the day, what has brought us luck, is our unwillingness to accept anything less than our absolute best, our perfectionist tendencies, and our strong self-motivation.
