Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Lewis.
Hi Jacob, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story really begins with my Great Great Grandfather, George Bergtold who was one of the first Agricultural Farmers in Midland, MI at the beginning of the 1900s. He sold his farm to Herbert Dow and the land is still used for agriculture studies by Dow Chemical and the original barn still stands. Because of this, I believe agricultural studies is in my blood and is the reason why, for the last 20 years, I have studied, built my career and I am now considered an expert by many in the industry. My career journey started shortly after graduating high school working for one of the largest lawncare companies in the world and doing very well in door to door sales for a couple seasons. I was then offered an opportunity to build a franchise location from ground floor with another large national corporation lawncare company. We did very well very quickly and broke 40 years of company records for most accounts sold, highest revenue and we were recognized by Lawn and Landscape Magazine as the fastest growing lawncare franchise in the nation in 2011. I believe the success was based on honest hard work, dedication to the community and the passion for agricultural chemistry that continued to grow in the core of my life. In 2016 I obtained a Pesticide Applicator’s Business License through Michigan State Agriculture to start my own company, Earth’s Way Lawn Care. I am able to offer a more personable service with higher quality products, detailed practices and organic options. I enjoy creating a partnership with my customers by educating them on best practices for a healthy lawn and landscape to achieve the absolute best results! I have stayed a small business for the last 10 years and service over 500 residential, commercial and municipal properties in the Great Lakes Bay Area! My beautiful wife, Bethanie is a stay at home mom and we have 6 amazing children! This season I am in the process of training my 17 year old son who has taken an interest in growing the business with me since a very young age. I look forward to expanding our services to create more Beautiful, Healthy, Pest-Free and Weed-Free Lawns and Landscapes in Mid-Michigan and beyond!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
2020 was very difficult with mandates and shutdowns. We stayed positive and communicated with our customers to ensure we would get through it and we did! Rising costs throughout the years has been hard for everyone, especially small local service companies. I pride myself in being competitive, fair and honest while using the highest quality products available. I always say, I’m not out here to get rich, I’m utilizing my skills with excellent service while making a living!

Earth’s Way Lawn Care is a “white glove” lawn care service. We specialize in Lawn and Landscape Restoration and Maintenance through customized seasonal programs that include High Quality Fertilizer, Weed Control and Pest Control products and practices on Residential and Commercial Properties. We offer more of a golf course maintenance approach to residential lawns. What sets us apart is the way we utilize our knowledge and passion for agricultural chemistry and the understanding that every property is different. We also take pride in holding long lasting relationships with our customers, working with them to ensure Green, Thick, Healthy, Weed and Pest-Free lawns and landscapes while beautifying our community!
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5 years I plan to expand my service area further into the Great Lakes Bay region as my oldest son, Kaden is currently training to become a certified pesticide applicator when he turns 18. My main focus is offering quality service and results to the community.
