Today we’d like to introduce you to Hope Ramales
Hi Hope, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Throughout most of my life I spent my days feeling exhausted. Unable to sit and watch a movie with friends without falling asleep. It was the running joke at the time that I could never stay awake during a movie and that I was paying for a nap anytime we went to the theatres. Long and behold it’s because I hade several autoimmune conditions that were wreaking havoc and causing inflammation throughout my body creating this symptom. I spent many years in multiple doctors offices being told that everything was normal and that there were no answers for me. I decided once I finally saw a Naturopathic Doctor who diagnosed my autoimmunity’s that I wanted to also be part of the solution for other people suffering with chronic symptoms.
That’s when I opened Health with Hope Chiropractic. I wanted to create an office where people could come to me about any symptom and we figure out root cause. I wanted to have a space where people feel heard, there are options, and there are no dead ends in people’s health.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was definitely difficult opening my practice in 2021, shortly after the pandemic, but I was motivated to create a change. I was tired of seeing what Chiropractic looked like in a lot of offices. 5 minutes with the Chiropractor, no time to discuss new symptoms, out the door. This has never been the type of care I craved and I wanted to provide the care I knew I wanted for my patient’s. So, I spent a lot of time trying to show Kalamazoo what my goal was at my office through social media and meeting some of the many amazing business owners here in Kalamazoo. This community is honestly just the BEST and I’ve found I’ve had a lot of success in patient’s finding me through word of mouth. I knew that having a practice that isn’t within network of insurance, which is what I have to do unfortunately to spend more than 5 minutes with my patients, wasn’t going to be easy. Especially the time I chose to open my practice, but I was and am passionate about truly helping people feel better and I knew that if I worked hard to show this, things would work out. And they have.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I own Health with Hope Chiropractic, an office where we help those struggling with chronic symptoms. Often times, pain is what gets people first through my door, but eventually we find there are multiple other things going on to address. Most people come to me after having been to a chiropractor in the past and feeling like the 5 minutes of care just wasn’t helping them as much as they’d like, so they stop going and find me. At my office, I spend close to 45 minutes at every appointment with my patients. We have plenty of time to discuss anything new that’s come up since last time, improvements, flare ups, etc. I also incorporate soft tissue work, prescribe easy movements to do at home, and perform anti-inflammatory therapies, such as cupping and electrostimulation therapy, into my office so that we are addressing the entire musculoskeletal system at the area(s) of concern. I’ve had a lot of success being able to look at the person as a whole and providing referral sources in areas that need more help. I also prescribe supplements when this seems applicable for people and lean into educating all my patient’s on what’s going on in the bodies they live in. I think educating is a big component that is often lost in any office and is probably the most important part of their care.
What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been a motivated go-getter type of person. I’ve never thought “I can’t do this” in my life. This has bit me in the butt a few times, but I’ve accomplished everything I’ve put my mind to. It didn’t come without sacrifice, but if it is important to me, I get it done.
I’ve always enjoyed music as I was a violinist for 13 years of my life. As I became a teenager I found a love for exercise where I started playing volleyball and tennis in highschool. I wouldn’t say I was ever good at either sport, but it led me into discovering weight lifting, which is my favorite form of exercise to this day. I have spent the last 10 years lifting weights 5-6 x per week and have found it is the exercise I find the most joy in. I have been able to live my life with little to no pain through this form of exercise and I recommend it to most people.
