Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
From a young age, I always thought of running my own business. Although unsure of the specific path I wanted, my heart was set on entrepreneurship. Over time, my fascination with fashion and beauty blossomed. During my sophomore year in college, I ventured into the world of makeup tutorials on Instagram, with aspirations of becoming an influencer. At the time, catching the eye of brands was a lot harder. Nonetheless, I persisted, creating content and tagging brands in the hope of recognition.

One day, it hit me: you know what, why wait for brands to notice me if I can create my brand? So, I began to start researching and learning. With zero experience in online business, I binged on YouTube tutorials, staying up late at night. Between college, campus organizations, and two jobs, my schedule was packed, but I was determined. Plus, as a Latina, I noticed the lack of representation in the beauty world, which pushed me even harder to make sure my brand stood out.

I then started experimenting with different products. It took a lot of trial and error, but I eventually found the best high-quality products for my future customers. After a little over two and a half years of hard work and dedication, which felt like a lifetime, I was finally able to launch Gissmar Beauty® in 2020.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
The journey wasn’t easy, especially considering my lack of experience in online businesses. It was a real challenge. In the lead-up to launching my business, I spent countless hours binge-watching YouTube videos to absorb as much knowledge as possible.

Initially, one of my biggest hurdles was gaining traction for my brand. Back then, convincing people to trust and buy from a brand they’d never heard of, especially those from out of state, was tough. Today, though, it feels like people are more at ease with online shopping.

What fills me with pride is my commitment to having that Latina representation in my brand. Right from the start, I recognized the absence of diversity in the beauty industry and made it my mission to address this by ensuring my brand reflects and celebrates my culture.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe that dedication is the key to my success. Whether striving to offer high-quality products for my customers, continuously seeking knowledge, or proudly showcasing my culture through my brand, my dedication drives me forward.
