Inspiring Conversations with Dr. Tsitsi Hungwe of Higher Mountaintops

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Tsitsi Hungwe.

Hi Dr. Hungwe, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My life took a huge turn in 2021 when I was the height of my career as a practicing Dentist. I was feeling lost, confused, and seeking a new direction. Outwardly to the world I was thriving, but internally I was struggling and bound by my own limiting beliefs. I thought to myself ‘”Is this it? Who is Tsitsi without all these the titles and what is my purpose?” I sought other avenues of support including mentoring, coaching and networking support. In doing so, I eventually ended up joining the Black Entrepreneurs Institute Bootcamp later that Fall.  I met my amazing caring mentors who opened my eyes to avenues I did not have an awareness of. I discovered my larger purpose and Higher Mountaintops was born, a decision that would forever change the trajectory of my life. Today, I leverage several years of experiences in the dental industry and in leadership as CEO Higher Mountaintops. Higher Mountaintops exists to help early professionals prepare for their next chapter with clarity and confidence.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life ultimately has its ups and downs. While I have faced many obstacles throughout my life, I do believe firmly that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Those realizations have come from overcoming my own struggles. For example, when I was younger, I overcame academic challenges I had in Algebra and Chemistry; years later, I went on to major in Biochemistry at Michigan Technological University as an undergrad student and became a Chemistry Learning Center Coach. Later on, in my attempts to complete my dental boards, I had to take my three board exams a total of 10 times. During that time, I felt like a failure and worthless. I realize now, that I had a tendency to tie my identity to my performance. Years later, I’m now more grounded in my identity and I know who I am. All these experiences have shaped me.

Today as an entrepreneur, the journey is truly mental; you have to bet on yourself and continue to hold firm to your vision; while I am a firm believer in my vision, I also believe that no one is self-made, and so I have people in my inner circle who support me and encourage me as I continue to rise.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Higher Mountaintops, LLC?
One of the least discussed topics, and potentially most challenging steps for early professionals to take is to pivot. At the same time, I believe we’re all uniquely called for more in other words something ‘higher’ that’s where the name Higher Mountaintops comes from.  Sometimes ‘higher’ means following the persistent inner voice within prompting us to move on. I’m here as a Coach and a steady support system to help early professionals move on with clarity and confidence, knowing they made the right decision for themselves.
