Today we’d like to introduce you to DMyron Guidry.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey for filmmaking and storytelling started in 2014 after experiencing a music video shoot to a song my dad and his music group made. Over a course of 2 weeks, I practiced a dance routine choreographed by Ardale Clark at the Boys & Girls Club of SWMI. Once the routine was down, we filmed for 3 days straight and I was able to watch how all the different scenes were filmed.
The videographer, Mihkail Cooper, stayed at our family home during the production process, so after each day, I found myself sitting over his shoulder watching the process and IMMEDIATEY fell in love. The idea of bringing multiple people together to produce ONE outcome, idea, and to work together… I told myself “I want to do this! I can do this for the rest of my life!” And it was so.
I asked my parents for a camera for Christmas that year and luckily enough, they bought me a HP point and shoot WITH a tablet/laptop to practice my edits on. From that point forward, it’s been trial and error and hours of YouTube University to sharpen my skills.
I started my own media company at the start of COVID, and it’s been a journey and learning process ever since. My goal is to produce a feature length, culture oriented film right here in Southwest Michigan.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not even close. There’s always growing pains when learning something new and this process is completely new. I’ve had countless nights of wanting to give up and just throw in the towel, but the passion and drive I have to see Southwest Michigan thriving in the film and media space is what keeps my going.
Building something in a place that virtually doesn’t exist is nearly impossible, and it has felt that way. However, being able to go in public and people recognizing me from my work, let’s me know that ANYTHING is possible. It just takes consistent action.
I’ve had to learn alot! From creativity to business to personal development and balance along the way.
This journey is FAR from over!
As you know, we’re big fans of DG Media Company. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
DG Media Company is a cinematic production studio based in Benton Harbor, Michigan. We work across four main lanes: Artist Services (music videos), Brand Stories (commercial and brand content), Creative Retainers (ongoing content partnerships for businesses that need a steady drumbeat of professional video), and Event Coverage, plus equipment rental for creators who need the gear.
What we’re known for is simple to say and hard to do: we make work that feels true. The video world is flooded with content that’s technically fine but emotionally empty — flashy transitions and trend-chasing that all starts to look the same. We built DG Media because independent artists, real brands, and real community stories deserve better than that, and most of them have never been shown the alternative. Storytelling is the product here, not the effects layered on top of it.
What we’re most proud of, brand-wise, is that we’re proving this level of cinematic, uncompromising work doesn’t have to come out of Chicago or Detroit. It can be built here in Southwest Michigan, and people will travel for it. That’s not just a talking point — it’s the whole reason we’re working toward a permanent creative campus at Orchard’s Mall in Benton Township by 2030: a space where artists shoot music videos, brands build campaigns, and the next generation of Benton Harbor creatives learns the craft, all under one roof.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We welcome conversations with local businesses, nonprofits, and media partners. If that’s you, reach out to us at info@dgmediacompany.com or visit our website www.dgmediacompany.com. We’d love to talk about what we could build together.
