Today we’d like to introduce you to Calvin Kalabat.
Hi Calvin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have lived in Michigan, specifically the Southeast Michigan Area, all of my life. Ever since I was a child, I would always find it interesting to tinker with things and would love to visit local electronics stores like Radio Shack and Microcenter. While in Highschool, I decided to learn all about Computers and what it takes to build a Custom Computer. I loved the process, everything about it was calling my name. I took what money I had saved up and built my own PC which is still running to this day. This experience evolved into working on Family Computers and building PCs for friends, and I loved it. I became the “Tech Guy” for those around me. Throughout my College Career in IT, I continued to grow and broaden my knowledge of Computers and Technical Services. I worked in various fields of IT from Desktop Support to Networking, to Server Administration and even some Development. All of which have helped me get to where I am today with starting this Computer Building, Repair, and Technical Service Business of Vivid PCs.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
A lot of the struggles I have endured came from even before starting the business. I struggled internally, thinking that I was not experienced enough to provide quality services for anyone that came to me. But I think a lot of people struggle with that aspect of starting a new business. I also focused a lot on small details before starting, I intentionally pushed my open date further and further out because I felt like things weren’t perfect. But really, things will never be perfect. I once heard someone say, “There’s no such thing as Done.” This stuck with me for a while and I stopped worrying about the small details, I decided to push forward regardless of where I was at. I could always come back to work on the details while the Business was open and active. I have some advice I’d like to provide anyone out there who is thinking of opening a business. If you’re struggling with thinking you’re not good enough or you think your business needs to be perfect to succeed, YOU ARE WRONG. Just start, I wish I was told this advice earlier and I hope it can help you. If you start, you can learn from the mistakes you’ll be making early and can fix them as they come up. Also, you are capable of creating a great business, you just need to believe in yourself and continuously work towards it.

We are a Computer Building, Repair, and Technical Service Business. We support any service for your Computer or Mac Device whether it be replacing a certain part, configuring a specific application, and anything in between. Here at Vivid PCs, we want to teach you about technology. We do not just perform the service and step out, instead we want you involved in the process if that is something you’re interested in. We want you to have your questions answered and supply you with the information that explains what we are doing and why we are doing it. We offer a few unique services directly tailored to allowing you to be part of the experience which is building your own Computer. Those services are “Personalized PC Building Consultation” where we sit in a call and go over what you’d like to do with your PC, how much you’d like to spend, and pick out parts together to make sure the system you’ll be getting is exactly what you want. We also offer the “Personalized PC Set Up Session” within this session we take the parts that were chosen for your system and go through the build process together with a member of Vivid PCs. There you can get any questions answered and see a live tutorial of your PC being built and also get hands-on with the build if you would like. Best of all, both of these Services are completely Free, and you can take advantage of one or both of the services. Before starting the Company, these services were what I would provide to friends and family who wanted a PC Built and almost always they take advantage of that because they like to see how it all works and feel like the PC is more than just a tool but an extension of what they were able to accomplish with a little bit of help. What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Tech is one of those industries that is changing each and every year. Consistent performance increases year over year with pricing that is continuously rising. But I believe, over the next 5-10 years, with all the improvement that will come, we will have a lot of efficiencies which can lower the price for consumer electronics. The Computer Repair industry, however, will need to become more complex and flexible. The amount of knowledge you will need to know to stay relevant will continue to rise each and every year. Not a lot of people are willing to settle for older technology even if it’s just 3 years old. That is why I could see a lot of younger individuals starting up their own Computer Repair Businesses, possibly overtaking any outdated organizations.
