Inspiring Conversations with Brandi Vorce of Scratch Decor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Vorce.

Hi Brandi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When Scratch Decor first started in the summer of 2019, life looked very different. My husband and I had just found out we were expecting our daughter, and we were both working in professional careers. Then the world turned upside down with Covid, and as first-time parents, we were filled with uncertainty about the future. In that season, we felt called to step back from the traditional path, lean into our faith, and focus on building something that allowed us to provide for our family while doing work that inspired us.

What started as a “big idea” quickly became a small but mighty business. We poured ourselves into designing products that weren’t just cute but also meaningful, and over the years, Scratch Decor has grown into a full warehouse of patches, mega mugs, transfers, and apparel that we ship all across the country. It hasn’t been the easiest road. Building a business never is, but it’s been the most rewarding. Now, I get to work side by side with my husband (and sometimes even our daughter), creating products people love and building connections with customers who support small shops like ours.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. We actually started in our basement and garage, packing orders at night and figuring it out as we went. Eventually we moved into a 1,000 square foot warehouse, but we outgrew that one in just a few months. That’s when we decided to remodel a 3,000 square foot space, which is where we are now.

There have been plenty of challenges along the way. We’ve had to switch manufacturers a few times, deal with changes in tariffs, and go through the whole process of becoming a federally registered trademark. And all of that was happening while we were still creating new designs and trying to grow the business. It hasn’t been easy, but every challenge has taught us something and pushed us to get better.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Scratch Decor is a wholesale business that specializes in iron-on patches, transfers, apparel, and our Pretty Preppy® Mega Trucker Mugs. We’ve become really known for our massive variety of patches. We carry thousands, from trendy designs to funny sayings, and people love being able to mix and match to create something totally their own. Our Pretty Preppy® Mega Trucker Mugs have also taken off because of their fun colors and nostalgic feel. They come in over 20 colors and are double-walled and insulated, making them a favorite for boutiques across the country.

What sets us apart is that a lot of what we sell is designed by us, and we are a federally registered trademarked brand. Scratch Decor® is trademarked for wholesale, and Pretty Preppy® is trademarked for retail, which shows how much we’ve invested in building something original that cannot just be copied. I am proud of that because it shows we are building a brand that will last.

What I love most is that Scratch Decor has kept its personality. Our products are fun, bold, and meaningful, but they also connect people. Whether it is someone pressing a patch on their own hoodie or a boutique selling our mugs to their customers, I want readers to know we are not just another wholesale supplier. We are a small, family-run brand creating products that bring a little joy and a lot of personality.

Any big plans?
For the future, we’re really focused on building more of a local presence with both Scratch Decor® and Pretty Preppy® Co. We’ve been blessed to create so many items for schools, businesses, and other brands across the country, and we’re excited to get more involved in our local community through charity work and partnerships. Since we manufacture our own drinkware, and I’m a big connoisseur of caffeine, I love the idea of branching out into hosting dirty soda and loaded tea bars. We think they go so well with our patch bars because it’s really fun for people to make a custom drink and create a piece of clothing at the same time. We’d also love to do more local patch bars for corporate events, team bonding, birthdays, and other celebrations. It’s important to us that both brands not only grow but also make a positive impact in the communities where we live and work.
