Inspiring Conversations with Boss Wop of Ground Level Music Group LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Boss Wop.

Hi Boss, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Marc McLeod, also known as Boss Wop, and I’m the Founder and CEO of Ground Level Music Group. My journey in music started from a passion for helping independent artists who had talent but lacked opportunities and resources. What began as a small vision eventually grew into a full-fledged music company focused on artist development, content creation, music distribution, and community impact.
Like many entrepreneurs, I started with very limited resources. There were plenty of challenges, setbacks, and moments where giving up would have been the easier option. Instead, I stayed focused on learning the business, building relationships, and creating opportunities not only for myself but for the artists around me. Over time, Ground Level Music Group evolved from an idea into a growing platform that has released dozens of songs and projects, worked with artists from multiple cities, launched interview and media platforms, and helped independent artists gain exposure.
Today, Ground Level Music Group operates as more than just a record label. We have expanded into media, artist development, live events, touring opportunities, and content creation through brands like GLM TV and Ground Level BLVD. Our mission is to give independent artists access to opportunities that many major markets take for granted.
What motivates me most is seeing artists grow. Watching someone go from recording their first song to performing live, building a fanbase, and creating a real career is what keeps me pushing forward. We still have a long way to go, but every milestone reminds me why I started. My goal is to continue building a platform that helps artists turn their dreams into reality while creating a lasting legacy for the next generation of independent talent

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Building a music company from the ground up comes with a lot of challenges, especially when you’re working with limited resources and trying to create opportunities in an industry that’s highly competitive.

One of the biggest struggles was learning the business side of music while actively running a label. There were times when I had to figure out distribution, marketing, artist management, content creation, and event planning all at once. I’ve also faced challenges with funding, finding the right team members, and helping artists stay consistent with their careers.

As an independent label owner, another challenge has been balancing my personal responsibilities with my business goals. Being a husband, a father, and an entrepreneur means there are constant demands on my time, but those responsibilities also motivate me to keep pushing forward.

I’ve learned that not every artist will stay, not every project will go as planned, and not every opportunity will work out. There have been setbacks, missed opportunities, and moments where progress felt slow. However, every challenge taught me something valuable and helped strengthen the foundation of Ground Level Music Group.

Looking back, I’m grateful for the struggles because they forced me to become a better leader, a better businessman, and a better mentor. The journey is still ongoing, but every obstacle we’ve overcome has made our success more meaningful and has prepared us for the next level of growth.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am the Founder and CEO of Ground Level Music Group, an independent record label and artist development company focused on helping emerging artists build sustainable careers in music. While we operate as a label, our work goes beyond simply releasing music. We provide artist development, content creation, branding assistance, promotional support, media exposure, live performance opportunities, and industry guidance.

I specialize in identifying talent, building artist brands, and creating opportunities for independent musicians who may not have access to traditional industry resources. Over the years, I’ve worked to create an ecosystem where artists can develop their skills, release music consistently, gain exposure, and learn the business side of the industry.

What I’m most proud of is building Ground Level Music Group from the ground up. We started with a vision and a commitment to helping artists, and today we have released dozens of songs and projects, developed multiple artists, built media platforms, and created opportunities that continue to grow each year. Seeing artists gain confidence, perform live for the first time, release successful projects, and grow their fan bases is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

I believe what sets me apart is that I genuinely care about artist development and long-term growth. Many people focus only on numbers, but I focus on building relationships, creating structure, and helping artists understand how to navigate the music industry. I know what it’s like to start with limited resources, so I try to create opportunities for others who are in the same position I once was.

At the end of the day, my goal isn’t just to build a successful company—it’s to create a platform that helps independent artists turn their passion into something meaningful while making a positive impact on their communities. That’s the legacy I’m working to build through Ground Level Music Group.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
One thing that might surprise people is that while many know me as a label owner and entrepreneur, I actually started out simply wanting to help people around me succeed. Ground Level Music Group wasn’t created because I wanted a title—it was created because I saw talented artists who needed support, guidance, and opportunities.

Another thing people may not know is that I’m constantly learning. A lot of people see the finished product—the music releases, interviews, events, and growing brand—but they don’t always see the late nights spent studying the music business, marketing, management, and entrepreneurship.
