Inspiring Conversations with Blake Waldecker of Waldecker Homes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blake Waldecker.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After college I was working in a sales position, unsure of where I really wanted to go in life. With the help of family, I bought a foreclosed house, fixed it up and fell in love with home renovations. I left my current job to become a framer, as I felt it the best way to prepare me to become a residential contractor. That dream of being a contractor came to reality and it will be four years this November, since starting my company. There have been so many people who have influenced me and helped me along the way. I certainly wouldn’t be in the position I am currently in, without a great number of people believing in me along the way.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think any road is smooth to starting and growing a business. I think you realize it’s going to be really hard and you lean into that. Hard isn’t a bad thing. We, as humans, like to try and avoid hard. I think realizing the hard things in life are what shapes us and makes us better. So long as we don’t quit.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Waldecker Homes?
We are a residential home builder in Traverse City, Michigan. We focus mainly on second homes on waterfront properties. The difference when working with our team is the enjoyable process. There is a genuine level of care that you dont get with other builders. We are also extremely transparent in all that we do. We view the homeowner as a teammate, in their home building journey. Lastly, Given many of our owners aren’t local, our communication is second to none. With the software platform we use, they always feel in touch with what is going on, during construction.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Fairness. Building a thriving, profitable ecosystem where everyone wins together. The Owners, tradesman and Waldecker Homes. All three need to win, on each project, to ensure we can continue delivering beautiful homes to customers into the future.
