Inspiring Conversations with Ashley Watt Nicole Staten of KWave Corner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Watt Nicole Staten

Hi Ashley Watt, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We’ve both been into the K-POP scene for around a decade and although recently K-POP has grown into a more widely known genre of music, it used to be very difficult to find other people in the community. Because of that, we started trying to create our own areas where we could build relationships with those who have similar interests to create a sense of belonging. We started with our own K-POP dance cover group and moved to hosting events through that such as Random Dance Plays and meet-ups in the park. That then led to more organized occasions like cupsleeve events and our most recent endeavor, the First Annual KWave Summer Festival.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t always been easy. One of our biggest challenges was during the pandemic, which halted a lot of the events we had been trying to organize during that time. Another thing that’s been difficult is that this is currently something we run as a side-job to our own busy lives, but we love being able to carve time out for what we’re passionate about.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a new business that is still undergoing the beginning stages of setting up our brand. So far, what we’ve been focusing on is getting our name out to the public through organizing events such as our KWave Summer Festival and we have been using social media as a way to gauge interest and connect with others in the community. We are looking forward to many new things as we continue to grow! Our hope is to one day host bigger events such as a Korean Pop Culture Convention where we can showcase a multitude of different areas such as Korean skincare products, collaborating with local Korean restaurants and bringing in not only local talent for performances and panels, but actual idols and groups in the industry as well.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has really only been a small role in our story, honestly. Our biggest stroke of luck happened when we met each other at a random K-POP meet up in 2017 and became friends through that. However, the rest of our story has been written by hard work, determination and passion.
