Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelina Pechota.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi Michigan friends, my name is Angelina Pechota, and I am from a super small town in southern Illinois where my mom worked hard raising us girls. Teaching me to work hard for what we want and to expect nothing from anyone. I have always had a few jobs at a time, so starting these small businesses I have now and keeping so busy was just natural. In 2017 I did a lot of research about photo booths in our area, Adrian, MI, and found my market was perfect for it. I chose to go with the original Selfie Station out of California because I found it to be the most unique. After lots of trial and error, I found what worked and what didn’t from software, backdrops, and offering only premium props. My husband, Joe, has been supportive throughout the entire process. The photo booth community has also been a great sounding board for newcomers as well. As I go into year six in the business I am confident in my business, continue to invest in offering even more premium services, and grow my business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think all of us small business owners can say the biggest struggle we have had is the pandemic. After shutting down for a year plus, having thousands of dollars on credit for clients, and just NO work, it was rough. With all of those credits, we were working for free that next year and minimal events still happening. I have been incredibly blessed with regular clients who were ready to do events again and did not hesitate to work with my small business again.
When it comes to mentors, I have found great groups online within the photo booth community. These groups have been wonderful when it comes to business, marketing, and strategy. Locally, I have joined many groups, including Athena Aide, Zonta, and also attend functions at our local golf course and such. You have to be out and about to get your name out and connect with your community, give back when you can, and create memorable impressions.
