Hunter Turner’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

Hunter Turner shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Hunter, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Oh, let’s see.. A normal day for me looks like a couple eggs cracked, hash browns in the air fryer and smokies on the griddle for my daughter breakfast at 5:30am. That way she’s off to a good start to her school day and I’m up an at em’! From there I hop on my laptop and reply to some emails, prep some playlist for the weekends events then it’s off to the full time job. 8:30am I begin my shop manager job at Craig’s Signs where we letter/wrap vehicles & make signs of all kinds. At 1:00pm we take lunch and generally I am on my laptop replying to customers of Good Company or typing contracts or even often times meeting with clients getting contracts signed. After lunch it’s back to the grind til 6:30pm sometimes much later, after a full day at my full time job I jump right into wedding prep, final detail meetings, contract preperation & communication with the Good Co. team scheduling them on events & locking in dates. A normal day for me starts at 5:30am and ends around 10:30pm when I arrive back home where I am guilty of continuing work at home. God has provided me with a V8 mind and internal engine so each day I intend on using up all the gas!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Good Company Party Productions is my heart & soul, a company representing the cross & crown while providing the thumb area of Michigan with some of the best DJ’s the state has to offer! We now have 6 DJ’s on staff specializing in DJing/Emceeing, professional lighting and sound design covering over 100 weddings a year on top of many other events including, middle school dances, downtown events, corporate parties, private events & much more. We stand on our ability to make any event unforgettable as well as our intense attention to detail ensuring perfection at each and every event. WE LOVE WHAT WE DO!

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Very interesting question, what breaks the bond between individuals is their separate beliefs. We all are so different there is no denying that and we can often instantly judge because of that but that’s what makes us all so unique. People especially at events we do where you have two families meeting for the first time often times having different beliefs & life styles. That can be a difficult line to cross if you come from two different worlds but we at Good Company have the amazing opportunity to bring all people together through the tips of our fingers, transitioning through songs and creating a vibe that brings all these differences together for a few hours at a time. So to me music & love restores bonds & even creates them at times, we are so blessed to be able to do what we do, create bridges that eliminate differences even if its for a few moments in time. Music is very powerful and if used correctly can restore, replenish & renew all bonds!

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I am so afraid of letting others down, it’s by far my worst fear. Not coming through on a promise or people having high expectations because of my resume but not coming through with those, that scares me to death! There are so many great and I mean great DJ’s out there that it can be scary preforming each and every weekend knowing that at the touch of a few buttons on a phone attendees can find someone that may be better at the craft. For years that in a way held me back, but it also pushed me to be better and better by studying the greats and attempting to be just that! It may have even kept me in the past from pursing more than I have but now I trust that my lord Jesus will guide me and lead me to right where I need to be so the fear is truly gone, full steam ahead now because in this world there is always someone better. So why live in fear of that? Go do your best everyday and the people you run into, perform for will notice your effort & your drive and they will love it!

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
In this line of work it can be hard togo at it alone like I had been doing but a couple of years agoI teamed up with one of the best in the business! Kevin Bruman my partner in crime, has been the biggest help & has given me so much tech guidance to push me to the next level. Kevin is now employed with Good Company Party Productions & does dozens of weddings for us every year. He is tech savvy, experienced & one of the best at the craft of DJ/Emceeing. So the credit is all his, I run straight to him with any technical, computer, sound & just general DJ information! He’s my go to guy!!

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
A place of peace for me is just when a dance floor is rocking, crowd is fully tuned into the moment & I just get the opportunity to create that vibe. There’s no feeling so great as creating an environment so free and so fun that people can kind of forget all their problems for just a few moments in time.. There’s something truly magical about that feeling!
