Tamicka, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up, I was surrounded by talented artists, exceptional athletes, and creative individuals who were clearly gifted in specific areas, and I often found myself wondering where I fit in. I didn’t feel like I had one defined “craft” to claim. However, as I continued working with students, teams, and colleagues, I began to notice a consistent pattern—people naturally came to me for guidance, clarity, and support.
Throughout my career, leaders, supervisors, and peers would seek me out to help navigate challenges, mediate situations, and offer perspective. Over time, it became clear that my strength wasn’t in performance, but in helping others move forward with confidence and direction. I developed a strong ability to see through complexity, ask the right questions, and guide people through uncertainty with both care and strategy.
That’s when it really clicked for me—coaching wasn’t something I had to learn from scratch; it was something I had been doing all along. Becoming a life coach was simply a matter of fully stepping into a role that had always come naturally to me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I was born and raised in Michigan, so I like to say I’m used to navigating a few bumps along the way. But more seriously, the journey of understanding who you are and stepping into your purpose can be intimidating.
Early on, one of my biggest challenges was fully owning my value. Because guiding others came so naturally to me, I spent a lot of time doubting whether it was something people would truly invest in. I often found myself supporting leaders behind the scenes. I offered clarity, direction, and perspective, but hesitated to step into the spotlight and claim that as my gift.
Another layer of challenge was that life coaching is still a relatively new professional space, especially in the community I grew up in. People were taught to figure things out on their own or seek guidance from elders who provided strong, foundational wisdom, but the idea of investing in structured, modern support wasn’t common. So I wasn’t just building a business, I was also introducing a new way of thinking about personal growth and support.
On top of that, entrepreneurship itself comes with uncertainty such as: learning how to position my services, set boundaries, and confidently communicate my value while staying consistent and visible, even when results weren’t immediate.
But every challenge brought growth and clarity. It pushed me to build confidence, refine my approach, and truly step into my purpose. Even now, I’m continuously evolving and adapting to the needs of the people I serve and strengthening how I show up. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been incredibly meaningful, and every obstacle has shaped the coach I am today.
