Shayla Unik is a dynamic Career Confidence and Development Coach with a decade of experience in human resources. As a certified HR professional since 2019, Shayla has honed her expertise by single-handedly managing an HR department where she focused on hiring individuals based on their skills and abilities for various positions, including C-suite roles.

In 2015, Shayla launched a groundbreaking program aimed at increasing diversity in architecture, which has less than 5% representation of African-Americans in its industry. Through an impactful HBCU tour, she engaged with students from historically Black colleges and universities, providing invaluable feedback on resumes and offering guidance to help them prepare for career opportunities, including internships. To date, Shayla has read over 1,000 resumes and crafted more than 100 tailored resumes for clients ranging from entry-level high school graduates to seasoned professionals pivoting in their careers.

Shayla’s coaching style emphasizes the importance of interview preparation, instilling confidence in her clients as they navigate their career journeys. She strongly advocates optimizing LinkedIn, recognizing it as one of the most underutilized tools for career enhancement. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Leaving a stable six-figure corporate position to embark on the uncertain path of full-time entrepreneurship has been one of the most challenging—and rewarding—journeys of my life. This transition has required immense discipline, both personally and financially, while teaching me invaluable lessons about my strengths, weaknesses, and, most importantly, my faith.
When I first stepped out of my corporate role, I found myself navigating a maze of opportunities and challenges. In an effort to gain clients and establish my name, I offered a wide range of services—some within my expertise and others far outside my scope. I was spreading myself too thin, chasing momentum but losing sight of sustainability. It didn’t take long to learn a critical truth: there is no reward for burnout.

Through trial and error, I began to redefine my focus, asking myself where my true passion lay and how I could serve others in a meaningful way. After nearly two years of “figuring it out,” I experienced a pivotal moment of clarity. I decided to pivot my HR consulting business and focus exclusively on Career Confidence—a mission that aligns perfectly with my purpose.
Today, I dedicate my work to helping individuals navigate career transitions with confidence. I partner with staffing agencies to prepare their clients for success, work with students transitioning into the workforce after completing skilled trades programs, and provide guidance to professionals making career pivots. Drawing from my experience as a certified HR professional who once sourced and interviewed candidates, I offer insider insights into what employers are truly seeking.
This journey has not been easy, but it has been fulfilling beyond measure. I now have the privilege of empowering others to unlock their potential and approach their careers with clarity and confidence. Entrepreneurship has stretched me in ways I could never have imagined, and I’m proud to walk in my purpose, serving others and helping them achieve success.
