Hi Sharee, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a Hairstylist for 30 years!!! When I first started it was more of a hobby, I figured i couldn’t support myself being a “kitchen beautician” so I decided to take it to THE NEXT LEVEL! By attending beauty college. When I was there and saw that I actually had a love for this and went ALL IN! in those moments I knew i wanted to take this farther.. After graduation I went back and acquired my instructor license… After teaching for awhile I starting thinking about the main reason I got into this industry was to work for MYSELF AND BE MY OWN BOSS! So I had to rethink my plan and future! What’s NEXT I asked myself??? maybe platform artist? Nah… then IT came to me I’ll open a school!!! Fast FORWARD 20 years later and alot of ups and downs I’ve FINALLY opened BENTON HARBOR BEAUTY ACADEMY! manifesting and dreaming in REAL TIME!!! we’re building SLOWLY BUT SURELY!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Well this location is the 2nd attempt to open… I had another building I had invested over 50,000 with construction and materials and equipment and rent and inspections fees and all!!!! Never got to open because the guy who owned the building lost it from right under me. I had no idea until they GAVE us a date to VACATE! after all I had put in… the state HAD already inspected and APPROVED THE SCHOOL FOR OPENING! The building got shutdown 2 weeks before my open house and i lost ALL THAT MONEY AND EFFORT AND ENERGY! AND NEVER GOT MANY THING BACK… he filed bankruptcy sadly there was nothing to recoup! It nearly killed me LITERALLY.. no loans no assistance just my retirement… This KILLED my enthusiasm! My zest for it all had died! It took a year to find another place! Now im back and better than before.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Don’t GIVE UP!!! there will ne obstacles of course BUT THRU THR GRACE OF GOD things always seems to work themselves out!! STAY THE RACE!
