Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Rome.
Hi Sandra, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I guess it starts with the love of clothing, fashion, and playing dress-up. So much fun to play with mom’s closet and also to go through grandma’s silk scarf drawer. began my retail career at 17 working in a well-loved and fabulous gallery store in Royal Oak Michigan. that was back in 1990 Fast forward to being a buyer for years, running a business and then taking all my experience and building my own store: Studio Sandra, est 2011
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, but I don’t think retail or owning your own business is. You have to be ready to weather the ups and down and it is a roller coaster. I started my business in the recession and now we have had two years plus of a pandemic. You for sure have to pivot, change and be ready… Brick-and-mortar small business are up against many obstacles; one being the internet and online shopping.
We rely on a small percent of people who still want to touch, feel and try on before they buy, and what sets my store apart is my service.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Studio Sandra is a women’s boutique. I specialize in knowing my clients; what works for their life and body type.
Where you can go to a shop and the owner is there every day and she knows your name.
It is about community as well, not just sales. I know my clients; their stories and you build relationships too.
This is the best part about my job.
I get to dress women and help them look and feel good. it goes beyond just an exchange of goods.
I am proud of this and have been building this for more than 11 years.
I am also proud to specialize in Usa made lines, women owned lines: artisans and designers. Some are globally made but most made right here in the USA.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t think luck has anything to do with it. It is hard work, resilience and some talent thrown in there.
