Hidden Gems: Meet Samantha Reyna of Reyna Esthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Reyna.

Samantha Reyna

Hi Samantha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
In 2017, I completed the esthetician program at Douglas J Aveda in Downtown Grand Rapids and fell in love with learning about facials and skincare. Shortly after being licensed, I began working at the Amway Grand Plaza Spa & Salon and became an esthetician mainly offering organic facials. I worked their full-time for a total of 5 years.

In the year 2020, when COVID and quarantine happened, spas and salons were closed, and I was laid off due to budget cuts. I took the opportunity to reflect, continue my education, and starting to think about opening my own business instead. My dream was always to own my own business, but it wasn’t until I was let go of my job that I started working towards that goal.

When I opened my own business in March of 2021, I wanted to make a bigger impact and focus on helping people with acne. I became a certified acne specialist and began helping my clients transform their skin, and have continued to do so the last couple of years.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all! Being a business owner comes with so many obstacles. I honestly had no idea how much goes into owning your own business and being an entrepreneur. I had no help at all financially and have never taken out a business loan. For the first year of having my business open, I still worked full-time at another spa to make ends meet. I worked very long hours for months to be able to financially support my business and myself. I have figured it out on my own for the most part, but over the last year, I’ve had some amazing recourses and connections that have helped me tremendously.

Another thing that I learned throughout my journey of becoming a business owner is that it can be a lonely journey, and it takes a lot of time and patience. There were times where I wanted to quit but I kept going because having my own business is what my goal was since the beginning. Thankfully I had two people in my life to look up to (my parents) and they taught me that I can do anything I put my mind to, and they always believed in me. They also have had their own business for many years so being an entrepreneur and small business owner I take pride in.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m a licensed esthetician and certified acne specialist with 6 years of experience. I treat skin conditions of all types, but my main focus is helping people who struggle with acne.

There are many spas in the Grand Rapids area, but what sets me apart is my approach of providing both relaxing and corrective skincare treatments. I provide a “spa-like” experience but every treatment is tailored to each person’s skin needs and truly works.

I am most proud of the transformations I’ve been able to make with my clients; it’s so rewarding watching their confidence build each time I see them. A lot of people they come in to see me have struggled with their skin for years and feel like nothing has worked for them.

At Reyna Esthetics, I make sure to use only professional skincare products and treatments and truly care for your skin. Everyone’s skin journey is different, but I make sure to take all of the guesswork out of skincare for everyone that comes to see me.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My job makes me happy! I really love what I do and the connections and relationships I build with my clients. Acne is such a vulnerable part of people’s lives, and I know exactly what they feel because I struggled with severe acne for many years of my life. Once my clients start noticing their skin clear and my treatments work, they make sure to let me know how great they feel, and that always makes me happy. Aside from work, spending time with my family and loved ones is when I’m the happiest.
