Hidden Gems: Meet Robyn Wilson of Blackcrown Esthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn Wilson.

Hi Robyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story started about 10 years ago when I was working as a medical assistant. Even though I enjoyed helping people, I knew deep down that I had always dreamed of being an entrepreneur. I felt like I wasn’t fully living out what I was called to do, so I started asking myself what I was truly passionate about.

When I really thought about it, beauty was always the thing I naturally gravitated toward. I was constantly interested in makeup, different products, different looks, and the confidence that beauty can give someone. Once I realized that, I started taking makeup classes and eventually enrolled in esthetician school to become licensed.

Even though my original goal was to pursue makeup artistry, esthetician school introduced me to so many other skills that would eventually help me build the business I have today. After graduating, I worked as a freelance makeup artist and also began offering brow services. As time went on, I discovered that I really loved brows, and I became increasingly interested in body and brazilian waxing as well.

I later worked for a large waxing franchise, where I gained valuable experience and sharpened my skills. During that time, I realized I wanted to create something of my own—a place where women could receive exceptional services while also feeling comfortable, cared for, and seen.

That vision led me to start Blackcrown Esthetics in 2023. While I originally offered a variety of esthetic services, I eventually niched down to specializing in body and brazilian waxing and brows so I could become an expert in those areas and provide the best possible experience for my clients.

Today, I’ve built a loyal client base through consistency, dedication to excellence, and a commitment to making every client feel valued. For me, success isn’t just about the service—it’s about creating an environment where women feel comfortable, confident, and genuinely cared for every time they walk through my door.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road at all. When I first started my business, I really didn’t know what I was doing. I had no business experience, I didn’t go to business school, and I had no real clientele. I struggled in the beginning because I didn’t understand marketing, I hadn’t fully developed my brand, and I didn’t know how to effectively sell my services.

At the same time, I still had to work another job to support myself while I was trying to get my business off the ground. There were seasons where I experienced a lot of self-doubt, and that definitely affected my business growth. For a while, I was so focused on surviving financially that I wasn’t able to give my business the attention it deserved.

Eventually, I had to have an honest conversation with myself. I realized that God had not brought me this far just for me to quit, and that if I wanted my dream to become a reality, I needed to fully commit to it. From that point on, I dedicated myself to learning, growing, and doing the work necessary to build a successful business.

As I became more confident in who I was as a business owner and what Blackcrown Esthetics stood for, everything started to become clearer. My brand became stronger, my marketing improved, and clients began connecting with my mission and values. Through consistency, hard work, and faith, in God, I was able to build a loyal client base and grow the business into what it is today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Blackcrown Esthetics specializes in  brazilian ,body waxing and brow services, but at its core, it’s about helping women feel confident, comfortable, and cared for.

What sets my business apart is the experience. I believe beauty services should be personal, not transactional. I take the time to educate my clients, make them feel comfortable, and create an environment where they feel seen and supported.

I’m most proud of the fact that Blackcrown Esthetics has become a brand built on excellence, integrity, faith, and genuine care for others. Over the years, I’ve built a loyal client base because people connect with those values and the experience I provide.

I want people to know that when they visit Blackcrown Esthetics, they’re getting more than a service. They’re receiving personalized care from someone who is passionate about helping them look and feel their best.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I wouldn’t describe my journey as luck. As a person of faith, I believe God has guided my path and opened doors at the right time. There have been opportunities that I couldn’t have planned for myself, and there have also been setbacks that forced me to grow.

Some of the things that felt like bad luck in the moment actually ended up teaching me lessons that made me a stronger business owner. Looking back, I’m grateful for both the opportunities and the challenges because they helped shape Blackcrown Esthetics into what it is today.
