Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Holly

Hi Morgan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Swindle Records started as just a concept that I didn’t think would come to fruition. I was watching old music documentaries, especially those on the punk, hardcore, and metal scenes from back in the 70s-80s, and thinking how much I would love to experience that incredible and revolutionary time in music. Physical music media seemed to be much more exciting than it is now, and I wanted to create a music shopping experience that felt as nostalgic and exciting as those times were. That’s how Swindle Records started. Growing up in the music scene grew my passion and love for music and I wanted to share that in a unique, genre-free way. I want people to come in and explore different types of music. The concept of a mobile record store allowed for more flexibility, which made the most sense to me as a first time entrepreneur and full time biology student. Over time I hope to have a store front, and a space for local artists to come play and share their music. Being able to live out two of my greatest passions (music and biology) at once has been a fulfilling experience that I am incredibly grateful for. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my mother and sister.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were personal challenges along the way, but working through them has enabled me to progress myself and my business. Having to unexpectedly transition from creating a business with a trusted partner, to then alone was not something I planned for, but I wasn’t going to let that get in the way of the vision I had and fully believed in. I had to on full responsibility, and teach myself everything I needed to know to make my business successful alone. I did have help from my mom who stepped in to support me in anyway needed. Swindle Records became my focus when things became difficult. I have taken those challenges as a learning experience. They allowed me to focus my energy on things that I’m passionate about, in turn, they have driven the growth of my business and myself. Balancing being a full time student while building my business has been very challenging and overwhelming at times, but it is all worth it! Learning how to start a business was a difficult process as it was completely foreign to me. It took a lot of time, and a lot of errors, to get to where Swindle Records is today!

Swindle Records is a woman ran mobile record store that opened it’s doors in the summer of 2024! We provide a unique genre-free experience, offering new and used vinyl and cds, imported band merch, patches, stickers and more! We have a wide range of musical choices and hope people branch out and try something new. We strive to be even a small part of the regrowth of physical music media. We travel around Downriver MI, hoping to do many more markets and events this upcoming year!

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The drive and passion I have for music and my business has helped me to build Swindle Records. My commitment to creating not just a record store, but an experience has allowed my business to grow in a unique way. The vast musical knowledge I have acquired, and being in the music scene since I was three has been very important to my success, specifically running a record store. It has helped me to provide a wide range of music, be able to answer questions, and help people find new music to try! Being a new business I hope to grow along side my business and continue to strive for success with more experience.
