Hidden Gems: Meet Misty Pleiness of HorseLinc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Misty Pleiness.

Hi Misty, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
HorseLinc is an app for the horse industry, like an Airbnb or Uber that connects service providers with the owners of the horses that use those services. I’ve owned horses since I saved up to buy my first horse at 11 years old. I learned how to braid horsehair for competition in order to afford to compete in the National Champions when I was 17 and continued to braid through college to get my CPA. The horse industry is stuck in the paper invoice and check era and HorseLinc is an app to help pull it into the digital transformation of the 21st century.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I have encountered several obstacles along the way! A friend once told me that IT projects always cost twice as much and take twice as long as you expect, and I have learned first-hand that that is absolutely true. Additionally, in my career, I specialize in auditing computer systems so I know enough coding to be dangerous but not enough to code an entire app. I have had to switch development companies a few times to get the service and expertise I was looking for. Providing excellent customer service is a goal of mine as well and can be challenging keeping track of all the ways HorseLinc customers can reach out to us.

As you know, we’re big fans of HorseLinc. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am the founder and CEO of HorseLinc, an app for the horse industry that connects service providers with the horse “managers” (owners and trainers). We are known for coming up with innovative ways to save the people in the horse industry time and money. We are the only app that integrates both sides of the equation in one easy-to-use tool. I am most proud brand-wise that we have been able to expand our features and tools to continuously improve the lives of this hard-working group of people. The horse industry in the United States is over $122 Billion and that is less than 20% of the global market. HorseLinc has a global footprint that is growing each month.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice when starting your own business is to know that there will be good days and bad days, cherish the good days, and know on the bad days that there are more good days to come. And have a written budget and plan!
