Hidden Gems: Meet Meredith Fenton of Meredith Fenton, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meredith Fenton.

Hi Meredith, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always been passionate about psychology and about helping people recognize the strengths within themselves that may sometimes feel hidden. I earned my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Michigan State University, where I was inducted into the International Honor Society in Psychology and contributed to research examining response times and emotional biases among college students.

After taking time away from academia to navigate life’s challenges, I returned to graduate school with a renewed sense of purpose—to combine my academic background with the insight and empathy gained through lived experience. I began my graduate studies at Wake Forest University before pursuing a more clinically focused program at Northwestern University.
My experience at Northwestern was both rigorous and transformative. The program’s structure mirrored that of a Ph.D. track, with the master’s and doctoral programs closely integrated. I completed and defended a thesis as part of this training, which strengthened both my research and clinical skills. Above all, Northwestern deepened my commitment to lifelong learning and reinforced my belief that challenges can serve as powerful catalysts for growth, resilience, and perspective.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
By nature, I am an empathetic person, and my life experiences allow me to connect with clients in a genuine and deeply understanding way. This empathy, while one of my greatest strengths, also reminds me of the importance of balance. I love my work so much that it can sometimes be hard to step out of “therapist mode,” but through five years in practice, I’ve learned to apply the same lessons I share with my clients—time, patience, forgiveness, and grace. Life is complex, and I am profoundly honored to walk alongside my clients as we explore the shared human experience together.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CMHC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and National Certified Counselor (NCC)—titles that simply mean I am a therapist devoted to ongoing learning and committed to providing clients with the most effective, evidence-based care.

My areas of specialization include career challenges, life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, recovery from narcissistic abuse, ADHD, insomnia, family dynamics, and reproductive mental health, including peri/menopause and medication management. I strive to create a deeply supportive and nonjudgmental environment where every client feels seen, understood, and empowered to heal.

I integrate a variety of therapeutic modalities to best meet each individual’s needs, including Brainspotting, EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing, Deconstructing Anxiety, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I), and mindfulness-based practices drawn from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and neuroscience. I continually expand my training to ensure I bring the most comprehensive, informed approach to my work.

What’s next?
Looking ahead, my goal is to expand my work into a brick-and-mortar private practice and to begin offering clinical supervision. Michigan has unique requirements for supervision, and I believe that supportive, informed mentorship is vital as the mental health field continues to grow. I look forward to guiding emerging clinicians with the same care, curiosity, and compassion that have shaped my own professional journey.
