Hidden Gems: Meet Melissa Gjelaj of Melissa’s Skin Beautique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Gjelaj. 

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been in the skincare industry for nearly 15 years. I suffered from acne at one point in my life and wanted to truly understand the philosophy of skin. Before becoming a licensed Esthetician, I started as a receptionist in a skin spa in NYC and moved onto management throughout the years. That’s where I truly fell in love with skin. I couldn’t understand how much client education was lacking inside my treatments, so I decided to research and help myself . That is why, once you enter my treatment room, you will leave knowing more about your skin then going in. “That is one thing I always try to make sure and do. I educate my clients. Without educating them on how the skin works, products, and so forth, are you really even helping them?” I also wanted to create a beauty space where woman can be their own boss but still work as a team and help one another. So that’s how Melissa’s Skin Beautique came about!

Fast forward to now and I am a successful business owner, educator, And skin care specialist. I’m known for my microneedling treatments and signature facials. 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it wasn’t an easy road at all. I worked seven days a week for years. I’ve been working since I was 14 years old .  I took every class I could to stay educated. I never used technology when I worked. I did everything the “old school, ” way because I liked that control.  I was always afraid of information being lost so I wrote everything down so I had it all at hand and it wasn’t easy.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Melissa’s Skin Beautique?
We are a small intimate space full of talent and drive! I wanted to created a space where there is no drama, only love, teamwork, and passion. I wanted everyone to be their own boss and still have a team behind them who will support them no matter what. That’s what we do at Melissa’s Skin Beautique. We let everyone shine on their own but are still there helping and guiding one another if needed. 

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Education matters the most to me. Alongside client satisfaction. I feel like if you don’t education your clients when it comes to skincare, you’re not even helping them.
