Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Kendall.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was working as an Electrician when I hurt my back playing racquetball. Instead of going the route of pain meds and physical therapy, I decided to try going to a chiropractor. This man changed my life, not only did he help me with my back problem, my allergies now longer bothered me. I wasn’t getting colds the way I use to. I was not happy with my occupation and asked what it would take for me to become a chiropractor. I completed the necessary requirements and off to chiropractic college I went. School seemed to come pretty natural to me. I was honored to be a “student chiropractor of the month”.
After completion of school and licensing requirement I opened Bay Pointe Chiropractic in March 1985 and have been practicing since. Over the years I have been able to help thousands of people regain their health naturally, with out drugs or surgery. I continued my education and became a Certified Spinal Disability evaluator, one of only 600 nationwide. I was honored to become Hour Magazine’s Top Chiropractic Doctor and have been so honored for 9 years straight. I believe in giving back to the community and I volunteered to be the team Chiropractor for the Walled Lake Northern Knights Football team.
I am one of the Michigan’s leading experts on Cold Laser Pain Relief Therapy. I have had a article published on the subject, and have been asked to teach Thompson Technique to my colleagues in the Michigan Chiropractic Association.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Many Struggles along the way. Since I deal with numerous insurance companies each having their own rules, sometimes it’s been very hard keeping up with the regulations. When I start there were no computers. Changing from paper to computers with paper billing. Then came the implementation of Electronic Health Records. They say death and taxes are for certain. The forgot CHANGE. Get something figured out and the power that be change it .
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
People usually call my office because they are in some kind of pain. After a thorough consultation, I examine they patient to determine if their problem is some thing I can help them with, if not they are referred to another type of provider that I think would be able to help them better. If there case is one that I can help with I will take spinal X-rays. “To see is to know, not to see is to guess, and I don’t guess.
After a review of all the records I will make recommendation for their treatment based on my 37 years of experience.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up on the southwest side of Detroit and the family moved to Westland when I was 12. As a young boy I wanted to fly fighter planes. Unfortunately for me, in the second grad I had to start wearing glasses. That killed any thought of being a pilot. I was just an average student not really knowing what I wanted to do in life. It was just by circumstances that I became a chiropractor. It has been such a rewarding life and thinking of all the people that I have made a difference in their life.
