Hidden Gems: Meet Lacey Haddad of GARYS TOWING & REPAIR LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Haddad.

Lacey, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2008, Michigan’s economy was struggling. There were very few opportunities in the Saginaw County area, and a lot of foreclosures. My husband, Ray, owned a tow truck and began buying cars for scrap. He soon realized that many of these vehicles only needed a few repairs to become reliable transportation for someone in need. Instead of scrapping them, he started fixing and selling them.

Within two years, Ray purchased the building at 2005 S. Michigan Ave. in Saginaw, where he and a small team began repairing cars full-time. In 2012, I joined him, and together we grew the repair shop into a professional, community-focused business.

Over time, we invested back into our neighborhood—purchasing nearby buildings and improving their appearance. Today, our auto repair and sales business has grown into a trusted place where people can find quality cars and dependable service.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We have had to learn a lot about the industry and being business owners. Some months are very slow due to industry and customer needs. These slow times required us to use savings and credit cards to get through them. We had to learn this the hard way and use to rely on credit cards to get through those times. COVID restrictions shut down our auto sales businesses for months. People were required to stay home, so they did not need to repair their cars either. The timing of COVID was also when we predicted to be the busiest, but instead, we were closed. Had we not been as financially proactive in the past, we could have easily gone out of business permanently. We have nine skilled employees whom we have learned to value not only in their compensation, but also in our benefits packages and loyalty to them. Running a business with your spouse has many challenges, but we enjoy being a team and witnessing each other’s personal and professional growth.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
