Hi Katie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Kaitlin DeMaagd — but most people just call me Dr. Katie.
I have a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, and I’m a certified Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner with over 17 years of healthcare experience. My career has taken me through home-based primary care, geriatrics, and hospice. I’ve walked alongside patients and families in some of the most complex, emotional moments of their lives — and I’ve learned that the right support can make all the difference.
But my passion for elder care started long before any of that — with my grandparents and great-grandparents.
I’ve been blessed to know multiple generations of my family deeply. I’ve seen the beauty of aging, and I’ve also seen the heartbreak. I’ve been the listening ear, the care coordinator, the one who sat at appointments and asked the hard questions. I started It is Well Consulting to do this for others and for you. My grandparents call me Dr. Katie, so now you can too.
I started this work because navigating the healthcare system can feel overwhelming, especially when it involves someone you love. My hope is to ease that burden by walking alongside you — helping you plan ahead, stay organized, ask the right questions, and feel confident in the decisions you’re making.
I’m do not replace your primary care provider or give magical answers. But I can be a steady guide through a complicated process.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Launching It is Well Consulting has really shown me how necessary this resource is in today’s healthcare system. That said, the journey hasn’t been without its hurdles. Coming from a healthcare background, my biggest learning curves were understanding the operational, ‘behind-the-scenes’ mechanics of running a business, and learning how to step back to focus on big-picture, long-term goals. I continue to work through these challenges and learn something new each day.

In my consulting role I help families navigate complex medical decisions, transitions, and elder care support with confidence and peace of mind.
With over 17 years of healthcare experience in elder care, hospice and home based primary care, including almost 10 years as a Nurse Practitioner, I understand the healthcare system and know where things fall through the cracks.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
One strategy that has worked exceptionally well for me is building relationships with local business owners and entrepreneurs who, like me, launched their ventures out of personal lived experience and a desire to serve the community. These connections have been incredibly powerful. More often than not, one relationship has organically led to another, which has tremendously expanded both my professional network and my knowledge of available community resources.
