Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Payne Sr.
Hi Josh, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Back in 2016, I was working for a poly plant near Saginaw, MI where I went to college. We worked from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am doing extremely hard labor! I worked this job for a couple of months until one morning I was getting off of work, driving back to my apartment and my muscles began to tighten up. It was to the point I couldn’t even continue to drive so I stopped the car in the middle of the empty street and had a mental breakdown. Once I finally made it home, I decided that morning that it was time for a change and a new life. That’s when I started Payne Training, basketball training for all ages and skill levels. I started off doing free workouts with players I knew personally at Joe Dumars Fieldhouse on 8mile road. My first workout was with Evan Ragland in January 2017. From that day forward I stayed in the gym trying to help a player improve their skills.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I struggled at the beginning with finding a gym I could use consistently. I also started off with about 2 paying clients so every workout I was technically losing money because the gym rental fees would be double or triple the price I was charging for a workout.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I specialize in basketball skill development. I help young athletes with ball-handling, shooting, defense, and also in-game situations. I am also known for group workouts and also open runs. Going beyond basketball and teaching kids life lessons and helping them reach their goals is what sets me apart from others. I am proud that my brand is becoming a household name and earning the respect of my peers. Payne Training offers basketball training for players of all levels. From beginners to professional athletes everyone could use some extra work.
