Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica.
Hi Jessica , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Our journey really started long before the shop opened. For years, I (Jessica — the “J” in our name) worked in the Eastpointe Community Schools, which gave me a strong connection to families in the area and a deep appreciation for what it means to be part of a community. I also spent time working at Dairy Queen, where I learned the ins and outs of running an ice cream shop — from the importance of consistency and quality to how much a smile at the window can brighten someone’s day.
Those two experiences — serving my community through education and learning the business of ice cream — inspired me to take a leap of faith and open a place of our own. Thankfully, I wasn’t alone in this journey. My husband (Will, the W in our name)who works at a local warehouse, has been my biggest supporter, and together with our four children, we’ve built this dream into a family effort. Each of us has played a role — whether it’s pitching in at the shop, offering ideas, or simply keeping us motivated when times get tough.
What we wanted to create was more than just a spot to grab a cone. We dreamed of a gathering place where people feel welcome, where kids can make sweet memories, and where neighbors can enjoy quality food and treats at a fair price.
Over time, our shop has grown into exactly that. We’ve become a tradition for many families, a place where customers turn into friends, and where every season brings new faces alongside the familiar ones we love seeing come back. Our story is one of community, hard work, and family — and we’re proud to keep serving up smiles one scoop at a time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. We opened our doors right in the start of Covid, which was a huge challenge for a brand-new small business. There was so much uncertainty — from constantly changing guidelines to figuring out how to keep both our customers and staff safe while still creating a welcoming atmosphere.
On top of that, supply chain shortages and rising costs made it tough to keep everything stocked and affordable. Like many other small businesses, we had to learn how to adapt quickly, think creatively, and sometimes just roll with the punches.
But those struggles also helped shape who we are today. They taught us resilience, flexibility, and the importance of community support. Despite the obstacles, people continued to show up for us — and that encouragement kept us going. Looking back, opening during Covid was one of the hardest things we’ve ever done, but it also showed us how strong and determined we could be!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At our core, we’re more than just an ice cream shop — we’re a place where people come to enjoy great food, sweet treats, and a welcoming atmosphere. We specialize in serving up delicious, affordable ice cream, sundaes, cones, shakes, and food items made fresh and with care. What we’re best known for is not just our menu, but the way we make people feel when they walk up to our window — like they’re part of our extended family.
What sets us apart is the combination of quality, value, and genuine hospitality. We take pride in offering generous portions at fair prices, and we believe that great customer service never goes out of style. Every scoop, cone, and burger is made with the same attention to detail we’d give our own family.
Brand-wise, we’re most proud of the fact that we’ve become a tradition for so many families in the community. Parents bring their kids, grandparents bring their grandkids, and friends meet up to share a meal or treat together. That sense of being woven into people’s memories is something we cherish and work hard to maintain.
What we want readers to know is this: our business isn’t just about ice cream and food — it’s about community. We want every customer to leave with not just a treat in their hand, but a smile on their face. Whether you’re stopping by for your favorite sundae, trying something new, or just enjoying a moment with loved ones, our goal is to make your visit special.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck has definitely played a role in both good and challenging ways. Opening during Covid might seem like “bad luck” on the surface — and it certainly brought a unique set of obstacles — but in many ways, it shaped us into the business we are today. It forced us to be resourceful, to adapt quickly, and to lean on the strength of our community. Without those challenges, we might not have developed the resilience and creativity that continue to guide us.
On the flip side, we’ve been blessed with plenty of “good luck” too. We’ve been lucky to have incredible customers who supported us from day one, even in the toughest times. We’ve been lucky to build a team of hardworking, kind people who care about what they do. And we’ve been lucky to become part of a community that values local businesses and wants to see us succeed.
At the end of the day, luck — both good and bad — has shaped our journey. But we believe it’s how you respond to it that really matters. For us, every challenge has been an opportunity to grow, and every stroke of good fortune has been a reminder to stay grateful and keep paying it forward.
