Hidden Gems: Meet Jennifer Lane of 706 Properties, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Lane.

Hi Jennifer, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Yes, I started my career many moons ago as an operations manager for a small engineering firm turned contract manufacturer. I learned a lot in this position. I was there for 14 years, and we helped inventors turn their ideas into products on shelves. From there I decided to go into real estate. A big leap but I had always been intrigued by the endless possibilities within this industry. And…my ops background got the best of me. Along the way I assisted an appraisal company, a machine repair shop and my biggest challenge was the financial resurrection of a failed remodeling company. Meanwhile I was only selling anywhere from 10 to 15 properties per year. I was with the construction company for 8 years. It took about 3 years to get it out of major debt and from there it continued to grow. When I left in 2023, I felt that my focus should be real estate. What did I truly want to do there? Unfortunately, a series of events unfolded in my personal life that set me back a bit. I am now on the other side and ready to rebuild again. So, what did I do… Well, I’ve started a new residential remodeling company with my son and a licensed builder. We are offering services that complement the real estate business. I hope to add investment properties to the portfolio, assist sellers with listing prep and buyers with renovations.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think I allowed my personal life to interfere with my professional life a little too often. I was always attempting to help someone else with their dreams. My parents often refer to me as “the fixer”. I just can’t help myself. In 2023 I left that mentality behind and ran full steam ahead towards all of my own selfish ideas. I wanted to focus on real estate, possibly build a team and break into other markets. First and foremost, I needed to get my sales up. In the midst of this my longtime friend and boyfriend suddenly became ill. Memorial Day of 2024 he was misdiagnosed with severe GERD, by the 4th of July he was slipping away to metastatic cancer. It had spread throughout his body so by the time it was discover there nothing that anyone could do. He passed at home, with me, on July 23rd. This really took me out of my life for the next year or more. I still have my days and stretches but I am working through it. Having a new business to focus on is helping out greatly.

As you know, we’re big fans of 706 Properties, LLC . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I can only choose one business so let’s focus on the new one! 706 Properties is a name that my sons and I came up with years ago. Most likely when I started my real estate journey back in 2015. We daydreamed about rentals, flips and other ways to get involved with investment properties. Airbnb wasn’t as prevalent back that, but it soon became part of our conversations. Fast-forward 10 years or so and now I am partnered with an established contractor that has built his business alongside a talented interior designer. Together they have transformed countless kitchens, baths and other living spaces for their clients. My youngest son now has 10 years of experience to bring to the table as well so the 3 of us decided to create something of our own. With Doug’s 20 plus years of experience in high end interiors, Devin’s 10 years of experience in interiors, additions and exteriors and my 20+ years of not only project management by growth and expansion… I think we have a pretty outstanding starting point. Our intent is to offer residential remodeling, listing prep services for sellers, move in prep for buyers and investment opportunities for our brand.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My two sons. They now have their own experiences in business (and life) and still bounce around ideas with me.

Jim Medsker and my time at Keystone that provided the business foundations needed to move forward.

Blue Line Remodeling for showing me what I truly could do if I put my mind to it. I knew very little about construction going into that and came out with an expanded knowledge on financial restructuring, project management and construction knowledge I would have never otherwise gained.

And now… Doug and Devin for providing this opportunity with 706 Properties
