Today we’d like to introduce you to Elise Frazier.
Hi Elise, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started baking right out of high school. I used to watch the show Ace of Cakes with Duff Goldman and Cake Boss with Buddy and was like, I want to make wedding cakes. I first took cake decorating classes from a cake supply store in town and michaels. At the time I was attending Oakland Community College and decided to get my pastry certificate from them. After that I started working at a bakery for 7 years and now here I am trying to get my own baking business up and going.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been an easy path. It requires dedication through late nights and long hours. I’ve had cakes fall apart on me or short on ingredients at 2am. The cost of ingredients always going up. I have learned alot thru mistakes and these challenges.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I specialize in cakes and cupcakes. Right now I do alot of custome sugar cookies but my passion is more into cakes. I love seeing the looks on people’s faces ,especially kids when I open up the box to show them their cake.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I guess my biggest risk is changing career path in college and leaving some of my full times jobs to spend more time Into growing my own business.
