Hidden Gems: Meet Don & Courtney Clute of Handi Can

Today we’d like to introduce you to Don & Courtney Clute. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Don has professional experience in the waste equipment and sales field. He has always wanted to tie that in with a business of his own in a related field. Courtney’s professional experience is in management, accounting, and customer service. Together, we felt that our professional experiences would complement each other when starting our dumpster rental business. 

We felt it was the right time to start our own dumpster rental company in 2022. Handi Can LLC officially launched in late August of 2022. 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest struggles for our new business has been letting the community know we exist. Almost six months in, we are thankfully on a good track of expanding our customer base. Starting from scratch with no customers means that we are continually excited with each new rental order that has come in. We are also excited to see the growing list of repeat customers – both commercial and residential. 

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Handi Can LLC is a dumpster rental company that services both commercial and residential customers. We are based out of Midland, MI. Handi Can LLC services Midland County, Isabella County, Gratiot County, and a few outlying areas. 

We specialize in prompt, professional service. Don and Courtney are proud of the fact that we have really honed in on providing excellent customer service to our dumpster rental customers. It is a mix of just really being available on the other end for our customers, thorough communication, engaging the customer, professionalism, and providing a solution tailored to each dumpster rental customer who books with us. 

We want customers to have the ability to speak with a live person who understands their waste removal needs and can provide a unique customer service experience. We really jumped into this business because we saw the need for a unique opportunity in Central/Mid-Michigan to provide dumpster rentals alongside a high level of customer service. 

At Handi Can LLC, our goal is to be accessible. Commercially speaking, we service the following industries: water/fire restoration, real estate, property management, and building contractors. Residential customers tend to utilize our dumpster rental services for property and home cleanouts, renovation projects, junk removal, and scrap/recycling. 

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
In some ways, we are very risk-averse people. In other ways, like building a brand-new business from the ground up, we are definitely taking on risk. 

We are the sort to be very well-researched before taking on the major risks in life. We are also very committed people. So that risk versus commitment dynamic compliments one another.
