Hidden Gems: Meet Dee McQueen of By Deezign Mysteries LLc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dee McQueen

Hi Dee, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am an author, I write and host murder mystery parties, and I am a self-publishing coach.

I have always loved to read and write, it has been the means for me to escape the realities of the world. Writing has been therapy for me and has helped me through my personal journey in healing traumas . It has allowed me to express myself through stories and characters, which many times ends up in deep self-reflection and understanding of myself. I became an author because I wanted to be the means for others to escape their reality if only for a little while. One day, I decided I was going to write a book and publish it. Now one year later, I have written and published 2 books and I am currently working on my third. The next natural step became coaching aspiring authors through the process of writing and self-publishing.

That was the beginning of By Deezign Mysteries LLC.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This journey definitely has not been smooth. The process of writing, editing, book production, and publishing can be a long tedious process. Often during the process I dealt with “imposter syndrome” and wondered if this was truly what I should be doing. I also had to overcome fear, after I finished writing my first manuscript, I was hesitant to go through with the book production and publishing. I was terrified to share my book with the world. Then 5 months before my book launched I lost my father to cancer. At first that brought the production to a halt but then it was a source of motivation to publish my book while I was still able to.
Then there are the challenges that come with writing, planning, and hosting my murder mystery parties.

As you know, we’re big fans of By Deezign Mysteries LLc. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
By Deezign is an entertainment business. We write and publish murder mysteries and write and host murder mystery parties. Our favorite part is hearing from customers about how much they enjoyed the books that we published or how much fun they had at our mystery party.

We have recently expanded the business and offer coaching through the writing, book production, and self-publishing process. Next summer 2025 we will have writing camps for 9-17 year olds.

The business is named By Deezign the reason we chose this name is because we create who we are. Life is our story. Everything we do has a purpose and we continue to build and Deezign our lives regardless of obstacles, insecurities, and fears. Through it all we remain authentic to who we are.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I have to give a big thanks to my family and friends for their unwavering support. They were there when I was doubting myself through the writing process. They gave thumbs up or down regarding book names and cover designs. They were the first to purchase and read my books and gave honest feedback.
