Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Mailloux.
Hi Brittany, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in a small town in Ontario as the youngest of three girls. My parents, both self-employed owners of a construction company, instilled in me a strong work ethic, dedication to family, and appreciation for building something from the ground up. I attended a small French-speaking elementary school and later chose to attend an English-speaking high school so I could participate in competitive sports such as basketball, volleyball, soccer, and badminton.
As a first-generation university student, higher education was an uncharted path for me. I was initially accepted into the Mechanical Engineering program at the University of Windsor, but before finishing high school I realized my true passion was in the medical field and working with patients. I had always been fascinated by science—and inspired by the confidence a smile could bring. My positive orthodontic experience solidified my desire to pursue dentistry.
I completed my degree in Biology at Wayne State University in three years and was fortunate to be accepted into the University of Michigan’s Dental School, entering the Class of 2006 and graduating in 2010. Dental school was an incredible experience—I loved building relationships with professors, classmates, and patients, and spent much of my free time working in specialty clinics to learn as much as I could.
During dental school, I met my wonderful husband. After graduation, we decided to put down roots in West Michigan—a community he knew well from his time at Western Michigan University, where he played baseball and earned his degree. We were drawn to the area’s warmth, accessibility, and family-friendly atmosphere.
After working as an associate for a year and a half, I purchased my own dental practice in 2012. I had always known I wanted to be a business owner, and wanted to find the right practice for me. I love helping patients achieve the smiles they’ve always wanted, with a special focus on implants, dentures, and comprehensive restorative care. I continuously pursue advanced continuing education to deepen my skills in case planning and treatment success, always starting from the root cause of each patient’s concern.
My interest in orthodontics grew into a deep appreciation for how oral and facial structures impact overall health—particularly in relation to sleep and breathing. This led me to study pediatric airway development and sleep-disordered breathing. Many children suffer from fragmented sleep due to restricted airways or jaw structures, which can affect their growth, behavior, and overall health. I am passionate about addressing these root causes rather than masking symptoms.
Today, I work closely with a multidisciplinary team—including ENTs, myofunctional therapists, bodywork providers, pediatricians, pediatric dentists, and oral surgeons—to help patients breathe, sleep, and thrive. Seeing children and adults regain their health and vitality through proper airway treatment is incredibly rewarding.
While I’ve expanded my focus to include airway-centered dentistry, I still love restorative work—solving complex dental puzzles and restoring function from the ground up. I’ve realized that my early attraction to engineering’s precision and problem-solving naturally complements the science and artistry of dentistry.
My specialty lies in treating the lower face—the foundation of how we breathe and, ultimately, how we live. Helping patients improve such a vital part of their health is a privilege and a joy. Moving into our new building has been another exciting chapter, allowing our team to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care in a space designed for comfort, collaboration, and innovation.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are no smooth roads to success, but once you reach your destination, the potholes and speed bumps along the way often fade into the background. I’ve certainly faced my share of hurdles—coaches who didn’t follow through on their promises, team mismanagement, and teachers who used their authority in discouraging ways. At times, I even doubted my ability to work in the medical field because of a fear of needles and blood. I’ve also had to navigate instances of harassment and challenging environments.
Each of these experiences, while difficult, taught me resilience, self-advocacy, and the importance of integrity and empathy in leadership. They’ve shaped who I am today—both personally and professionally—and strengthened my commitment to creating supportive, respectful spaces for others.
As you know, we’re big fans of Mailloux Dentistry. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to reflect on those who deserve credit for my journey. I am a strong believer in mentorship and am fortunate to have received guidance and support from many people who have contributed significantly to both my personal and professional success.
My family has been my biggest group of cheerleaders. My mother was instrumental in keeping me active and curious through sports and activities, always offering supportive suggestions and gentle reminders. My father supported me unconditionally throughout my life, which I deeply appreciate. My sisters have consistently encouraged me, provided transportation when needed, and allowed me to practice treatment on their children, demonstrating incredible support. I also had close relatives who introduced me to adventure, fostered my love for horses, and modeled a faith-filled life despite experiencing loss. Through this close relationship I gained more family!
Mentors have been pivotal, ranging from professors in dental school to colleagues today whom I rely on for advice and guidance.
Finally, my husband has been a strong, constant influence. He embraced all my interests and supported me through dental school, our move to West Michigan, the purchase of my practice, and my love for animals and children. His support allows me to thrive in my work and come home to a fulfilling life. He is constantly taking care of our family needs and has embraced me wanting four children!
I am truly blessed to work with an incredible team of women and a great network of colleagues who encourage all my new ideas and passions. I believe that life offers so much, and I genuinely love learning from everyone I meet, including my patients.
