Today we’d like to introduce you to Bri Danielle
Hi Bri, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had an artsy vibe about myself. Growing up I dreamed of becoming a fashion designer or an artist. I would draw and paint as an outlet, never did I think I would channel that into makeup but life has a funny way of working out.
In college I was drawn to watching makeup videos on YouTube and I thought to myself “I can do that!”
So, one day I headed to Ulta Beauty and spent about $200 on makeup products and sat down and did my full face of makeup. I looked crazy but I knew that was a part of the process of learning. I was obsessed with nailing it, so I practiced everyday. I would go to school and my job at the bank with pink and purple eyeshadow on. Looking back, I’m sure I looked out of place with so much makeup on but I loved it!
I eventually started posting my progress onto my instagram page and began to get the attention of some smaller makeup brands over time, they would offer to send me free products and I then learned about what it meant to be a beauty influencer! Then, I was all in.
After a while of posting makeup looks on myself, and working with makeup brands, other people began to ask me if I would do their makeup. I was extremely hesitant at first but I agreed to do my sister’s makeup for her prom and it was stuck from there! The next week, I had a small roster of clients and I’ve been at it ever since.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road pursuing makeup at all. When I first started taking makeup seriously as a career option, I was in school to get my Master’s degree.
With me being a beauty influencer and needing to keep up with consistently making content, plus my workload from school, plus working my 9-5 job, I was completely overwhelmed.
I would often take breaks from accepting clientele just due to not having enough hours in the day.
Another obstacle for me was the fact that I was a bit torn between wanting to work in the field that I pursued in school versus fully pursuing my makeup dream. Mentally that was hard on me.
Not long after graduating, the pandemic came in and shut down everything. I wasn’t comfortable servicing clients, so I took almost a full year off and focused my efforts on building my platform as a beauty influencer. In that time, I feel like I lost a bit of my makeup artist skill set. So, I had to take a few classes to get back to it.
Eventually, I decided to put the majority of my energy into makeup. I even moved into a beauty salon to work part time and take clients, I was so determined to make this move into going full time as a makeup artist. But shortly after moving into the salon, I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. So, I felt it was better financially for me to remain at my 9-5 and revisit makeup later on.
The journey back to doing makeup was rocky. I didn’t believe in myself, I didn’t know how to market myself, I didn’t want to quit my job. But eventually, I did find my way back to it and made it work for me!
We’ve been impressed with Bri on the Beats LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a makeup artist I specialize in: creating soft glam makeup looks, teaching 1 on 1 makeup classes and offering makeup artist mentorship.
My aim when doing makeup is to keep my clients looking like themselves but more polished. I accentuate their natural features like their cheekbones, lips and brows, but I never want them to feel like they need to change themselves to look beautiful. I genuinely feel like my clients are gorgeous celebrities and I treat them as such. My chair is where all the it girls sit!
I also offer 1 on 1 classes for those that would like to learn how to complete a soft face of makeup on themselves or clients. In my classes I work with clients on a personalized level. Each class is tailored to meet the individual needs of the student. I complete one half of the face and walk them through completing the other half. Clients leave with an array of resources and materials to aid them in continuous learning as they go forth.
I’m most known for my very sweet, and personable demeanor. Anyone can tell you that to sit in my chair is to be welcomed and treated like one of my friends. I’m always in a good mood when I’m working. I prioritize the client experience to the max: offering complimentary snacks, touch up kits, accepting payment via Afterpay to make booking more accessible for everyone, and I am 100% always on time.
I’m also very proud of the mentorship that I have offered to other makeup artists. I started posting makeup artist tips to my Instagram account and drew in a large audience of artists. This led me to creating “MUAs Glow & Grow,” a makeup artist support group. In my support group I help artists with content strategies to gain clientele & use social media to grow their business, as well as offer general support. I’ve had up to 100 makeup artists from all over in the group.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as going from having a measurable goal to achieving it! Success is intentional for me. I’m really big on goal setting, often setting smaller goals as a part of accomplishing a larger one.
Even if the journey of achieving the goal isn’t exactly how it was planned out. As long the goal is met, it was a success!
