Hidden Gems: Meet Ben Thaxton of TPC Construction

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Thaxton.

Hi Ben, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Been tracking a bad aortic valve for about 10 years, first discovered 2015 when I had tingling feet and hands during workouts.
Discovered a valve that was allowing regurgitation (back flow), causing my heart to work harder every beat, my whole life.
Cardiologist informed me at my annual follow up this year, that it is time to do something, soon.
Underwent open heart surgery in Ann Arbor with a specialist that performs a repairing operation to use my own tissue to reconstruct the valve and root for a long term, drug free, re-operation free solution. Doc name Bo Yang.
I have a young family, two boys, 6 and 4y/o, a beautiful wife, Aliza, whom I have been with for 15 years.
I am 33y/o. Started my company TPC Construction in 2017. We do additions, large scale remodels, and decks.
We grew from 3 guys 3 years ago, to now supporting ten families.
I have one partner, Mike, who is responsible for much of our growth here at TPC, as he is the integrator to my visionary.
Goals are to grow the business, work with great people, for great people in need of top tier customer service and communication.
Expanding into Traverse City, Spring 2026. I am from Traverse City, and from a big family, so this will be an exciting transition, into an area that desperately needs contractors who communicate at a high level.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Business has been a challenging road, as it is for any successful, growth focused companies.
Struggles included starting off with friends, parting ways when the time called for it, and growing into a company focused on culture and communication. Personal struggles have been spending time away from my wife and sons as I grow a business that will support the life we want.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We focus on communication and culture, something required for great companies is today’s day and age.
We specialize in additions, large remodels, and decks.
Very proud of our team, they buy into the brand, their efforts, proud of the brand for becoming known as a wholesome, communicative team that can be trusted, when shady contractors are so common.
We are the premier addition and large remodeler in Michigan, and we are so because we communicate, and use modern technology to support our standards.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see it increasing. Shortage of blue collar tradesmen and women.
Aging boomer generation.
Real estate climate drives more remolding to maintain low interest rates of recent years.
