Hidden Gems: Meet Abby Black of AB Nutrition Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Black.

Hi Abby, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was in middle school, I had a strong interest in nutrition. I shadowed a registered dietitian and then decided I wanted to pursue dietetics in college. I double majored in Dietetics/Nutrition, Fitness, and Health at Purdue University. I have now been a registered dietitian nutritionist and certified exercise physiologist for the past 23 years. I have also been a certified diabetes care and education specialist for the past 17 years. 10 years ago, I became a certified LEAP therapist. I have worked in community settings, inpatient, and outpatient facilities. I started my private practice 13 years ago. I mainly work with clients with diabetes, eating disorders, and food sensitivities/inflammation.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely there have been challenges along the way. Balance of work/life has been important to keep fine tuning. It has been challenging with insurance companies not always providing medical nutrition therapy as benefits for some of my clients.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been in private practice for the past 13 years. I provide medical nutrition therapy (nutrition counseling) for clients who struggle with diabetes, eating disorders, or food sensitivities/inflammation. I have 23 years experience as a registered dietitian nutritionist. I provide individual, virtual medical nutrition therapy for clients. I work with clients where they are at and we work together to make small, sustainable changes. I don’t believe in diets as they don’t work. Instead, we find solutions that help with long term health improvements.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Nutrition and health are ever changing areas with many people seeking out registered dietitian nutritionists for their specific needs. Virtual appointments will continue due to their accessibility.
