Exploring Life & Business with Yeli Romero of ACCESO VIP / Yeli’s Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yeli Romero.

Hi Yeli, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I arrived to Grand Rapids when I was 16 years old in 1998. I attended Adelante High School while also taking training courses at Kent Career Technical Center for Cosmetology. I finished those programs and graduated in 2002. I try working in food service, then in office administration before I found my passion at La Poderosa radio station. Though I started as a secretary, my role soon grew to involve more task including promotional and fundraising activities. During this phase, I discovered that I enjoyed being involved with my community and the importance of being part of making an impact. It was not only a learning experience and a way to discover my passion, but it also opened my eyes to start being open about my condition. For one event, I was chosen to go to another state for a fundraising training at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. There, I saw children with hair-loss conditions like my own and was really inspired by the experience. I was ignited to support those children and learn more about fundraising. Eventually, I started working at another radio station, La Mejor GR. This is where my current business, ACCESO VIP, started – originally as a radio spot informing the community about events and promotional opportunities. We started becoming pretty popular as we promoted these businesses on our radio show. We realized we enjoyed promoting the businesses much more than being a radio host so we decided to start our own business promoting and sharing what was happening in our community. What started off as a hobby became a passion. Today we not only promote local businesses but we also provide social media marketing and management, content and brand creation, special events coordination, business coaching and so much more. Now, in addition to social marketing business, I am also a Certified Zumba Instructor and I host Zumba and healthy living classes for business and community members.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As I mentioned, in my story, I have a hair loss condition called Alopecia Universalis. This started when I was still in High School. That time in my life was very stressful as an immigrant new to this country trying to finish High School away from family and friends. Alopecia Universalis is when there is complete hair loss, and there is no cure. I struggle for many years with myself and my beliefs. I suffered from bulling for many years and issue with confidence and feeling like I couldn’t share my story even with my family. Even though this was an obstacle for me, I didn’t let it stop me from learning and finding my passion. I continue to grow and find my place in the community. Eventually, my confidence grew and I was finally able to share my story with my community in 2021. I realized that taking cosmetology while I was in high school prepared me to gain back my confidence.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I have two small businesses, one is Yeli’s Fitness. I am a Certified Zumba instructor and my other business is ACCESO VIP. We have over 8 years of experience working with local businesses reaching out to the Latino community. We specialize in digital marketing, social media management, graphic design event promotion, photography, promotional videos, and more. For both of my businesses, I can proudly say that our clients can always count on us to be professional, on time, and making sure to provide a customized client experience. We started out serving the Hispanic Community, and we still do, though our business has grown to serve larger companies as well. We specialize in promoting to the Hispanic Community to provide access and opportunities to our community members.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
God is a very important factor in my life. I feel like at moments in my life I lost faith, but that has made my faith even stronger more because of all the opportunities he has present to me. My family has also been an important part of my life in supporting me and encouraging me in a hard time.
