Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Davie.
Hi Tamara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I became an ordained minister in 2017 with no real plan on how I wanted to use my ordination at the time. About a year later, a close family friend was preparing to marry his boyfriend of many years but had a difficult time finding a minister that would marry same-sex couples. I thought to myself, “As a proud ally, I need to figure out what I can do so I can serve Detroit’s LGBTQIA+ community to make this process smoother.” In November 2019, we booked our first paid wedding clients, and after that, the business took off and had been booked and busy ever since! We marry all, same-sex, straight, black, white, Muslim, Christian, etc. Most of our clientele is of the LGBTQIA community because we’re known for being one of few marriage ministries who are LGBTQIA+ friendly, so that is our specialty. In 2022, Wedded Bliss Officiant Services won the International Wedding Awards as well as being SYMBIS certified, allowing us the ability to provide premarital coaching to our couples along with wedding coordination and officiant services. With 6 years of experience, Wedded Bliss Officiant Services has began coaching other officiants looking to start their business, with many of them in New York, Ohio, Texas, and the UK all doing very well!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The main struggle in the beginning was figuring out the best marketing strategy to gain brand awareness and attracting customers. Since this was my first business, I didn’t necessarily know how to market or advertise. I made a website and posted a digital flyer to my personal Facebook page, and that was it. Over time I had to learn that it takes much more than that to gain brand awareness and attract customers. Once I set up a business Facebook page and Google my business account, that’s when I started seeing more clientele. Also, I started leaving business cards literally everywhere I went, being more present on social media and telling everyone that would listen about Wedded Bliss! That’s how you gain brand awareness. That’s when I started to see a big shift in business.
What do you think about happiness?
I love to see my couples happy with my services and enjoying their special day. I love seeing the guest excited throughout the wedding ceremony as well. The most rewarding part of knowing I played a huge role in someone’s life is when they keep in touch with me and send pictures of then happily married later down the line, invite me to their baby showers, or send postcards from other states they’ve moved to long after the wedding. Just being a part of their families and loves is very rewarding to me. A few of my couples have even brought their children to my child care which is so cool! I really enjoy writing the custom ceremony scripts as well. Incorporating their love story and getting creative with the views is something that gets the couples and the wedding guests really excited. I just really love love so the entire process makes me happy in general!
