Exploring Life & Business with Steve Bebber of Health Pro and Caerusnet

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Bebber.  

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
First of all, I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with both Batchelor’s & Master’s degrees in Health Promotion & Human Performance and had been a Division 1 athlete in Track & Field. So, I’ve been seriously interested in health and fitness for a long time. Most of my career was in education but have always been entrepreneurial and interested in business. 

After many years in education, and not always being happy with the way education was going, the district I was in offered a lucrative buyout to all of the senior staff, and 48 of us took advantage of the offer. This was a blessing in disguise as they never offered a buyout again, and within six years, the district was $2 million in the red the last three years of their existence, the staff took a 10% pay cut, three years in a row. The district then dissolved and merged with another school district, and many staff members were out of a job. 

This gave me the opportunity to develop business further, which I had already started. My interest in health/fitness was the area of business that I started building since health & wellness was becoming the fastest and largest growing trend at the time and still is. My company, HEALTH PRO, was brought into existence in 2001, and we work with specific categories in the health & wellness industry.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
To be successful in any business venture, there are always going to be hurdles, challenges, roadblocks, and many types of adversity. But you need to have those things for a number of reasons. They make you creative to think how to overcome the hurdle, they make you tougher, they help you to understand others when they come up against the same challenges, they make you compassionate, they help to make you persistent to accomplish your goal, and they test your true character. 

As I was building my business, one challenge was finding clients that would listen to what I had to say. Another was finding clients willing to try products. And a third was finding business partners that wanted to help create business but weren’t willing to step up to the plate and do what they said they’d like to do. 

Sometimes people say one thing about why they want to create business and more cash flow but then don’t have the integrity to do what they said they wanted to do. But business isn’t for everyone, and you don’t need everyone for a client or for a business associate. 

So now what I do is to simply look for the people that are looking for me, and there are lots of them. If someone isn’t willing to be a client or a business partner, you don’t take it personally. You never know what’s going on in someone’s life or going on behind closed doors. If that particular person doesn’t work out for your business, you may have just dodged a bullet because they may have caused you a lot of grief if they had come into your realm of business. So, you don’t worry about why something may have not worked out, you just move on and assume you’ve just dodged a lot of agony, and you may not know why until later down the road when you find out why. 

The important thing is this. “Be as nice as possible to everyone you meet because you don’t know what’s going on in their life.” 

Work on building relationships because everyone you meet probably knows someone that needs to know you. It may not be immediately; it may be weeks, months, or even a year or so down the road. But you never know. Work on building relationships, being patient, and being very nice to those you meet. 

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have two separate businesses. My first and main one is Health Pro which is a health & wellness business that helps redesign a person’s health for a more vibrant & energetic life. I’m certified as a Specialist in Fitness Nutrition and have a Bachelor’s & Master’s degree in Health Promotion & Human Performance from Eastern Michigan University. I’m a former D1 NCAA athlete on a team that won 3 Track & Field National Championships and have been in athletics, fitness, and training for over 30 years and have coached athletes from early teens to college age. 

Also, I have been a successful health & wellness weight loss coach for over 20 years working with a program that gets weight off for the long term, safely, and lowers the vital signs naturally, without meds. Besides specializing in weight loss coaching, I also focus on premium quality nutrition and sports nutrition, air & water purification systems, and clean skin nutrition for healthy anti-aging skin care. 

Brand-wise, I’m extremely proud of all of our brands because they are exceptional, have lots of research & development behind them, and have the evidence and certifications from independent third-party labs to back up the claims. Also, there has been much collaboration with major universities in the research & development area to help create high-quality products and in some cases, one-of-a-kind, first-of-a-kind on the marketplace. It is about finding out what a client wants to improve or correct and helping them find the right solution from the options available and make the right choices. When they’re happy, I’m happy. 

My second business is a professional development and business referral business called CAERUSNET (seer us net). I’ve owned the license for the group for 8 1/2 years and facilitate a group of 22 business owners of various businesses to help them master the art of referring and trust building. We work on passing warm referrals, not cold leads, and is a very effective system. We meet for one hour 32 times/year, take scheduled breaks, and grow a group to 30 members. Any type of professional, ethical business can apply, providing there isn’t already a business in the same category in the group. 

The thing that sets up apart from other groups is the system we use, building trust creating good referrals for members; and we not only work on mastering the art of referring but also on leadership skills on points to help make a business run smoother and more effectively, and how to treat people the way they should be treated. There are over 25 Caerusnet groups running in Michigan, and since it was founded in 2008 by Steve Zyskowski, over 80,000 warm referrals have been passed. That’s a lot of business created, even if only half that number resulted in a positive outcome, sale, or service. 

Having a Caerusnet group to facilitate has been fabulous because I’m able to help other businesses make money, and I’m able to be paid to do so while I’m able to promote my health & wellness company, Health Pro, to my sales force which is the whole team of business owners. So, it is a win/win situation. 

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
During the time I’ve had business, I’ve had numerous mentors, supporters & advocates, and teammates that have helped or been crucial at different times over the years. Some come in and then go out. But overall, my wife Pamela has been there giving encouragement, making suggestions, helping in many ways, and supporting my efforts. She plays a valuable part of our business, working with clients that are more in tuned to a female’s input and touch. She is the one that is the reason that I own a Caerusnet facilitator group. 

I also owe a lot to our business coach & mentor, Marnie Fondren, who is a successful business owner in her own right. She has given us valuable insight, suggestions, ideas & guidance in developing our business over the years and is a good friend of over 35 years. We’ve traveled together many times for pleasure and to conferences for continuing education. She has most certainly been a very valuable asset to our business. 

There have been many others in our business association that have given important information and valuable input for developing a sound business. Especially the Dr.’s that have explained how nutrition impacts human physiology in many ways for a positive outcome. 

Also, Caerusnet founder, Steve Zyskowski, has been very valuable in helping me have a successful Caerusnet organization. His knowledge & expertise is & has always been greatly appreciated.
