Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Rodriguez.
Hi Sophia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2020, when the entire world stopped, I happened to be pregnant with my daughter (ruby). She was born in august of that year. So, my husband and I agreed that it was better that I stopped working considering the circumstances everyone was in at that time. During the first few months- I fell deeply into postpartum depression. I had lost sight of who I was and my own aspirations.
I was only 20 years old at the time and I felt that I had already lost myself in motherhood. That I would never become the woman I dreamt of becoming. A woman my daughter would be proud to call mama. I was tired of crying and feeling the weight of my mental health consume me- there was more to motherhood than this.
Since I was a pre-teen days, I’ve always had a love for clothes and fashion. I truly believed in the term “retail therapy”. Assembling outfits and shopping was therapeutic to me. I realized that it was actually my passion. So, I thought- maybe I could open a boutique. I didn’t have much money or have any idea what I was doing. But I knew I needed to do something. For the sake of myself and who I needed to be as a mother.
It wasn’t just about me figuring out what I needed to do with myself. But it was about the impact of what a mother has on her daughter. Becoming a mother doesn’t mean you have to give up on your own dreams- it just means you have to work a little harder and you have your biggest fan rooting you on the whole way.
More than a year later, we’ve built a successful online boutique and a mobile shop. Becoming ruby’s mama has been my greatest gift and has allowed me to be the woman I dreamt of becoming.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My mental health has always been something I’ve struggled with since the start of this business. Someways, I felt that it was too good to be true. In January of 2022, I was diagnosed with ectopic pregnancy and was rushed into emergency surgery. At that point, I had to step back and heal from that loss. During that time, my boutique community, customer, and family surrounded me with support and courage to get back on my feet. That is when I truly realized this is where I belong.
We’ve been impressed with Ruby’s Boutique, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are an online and mobile women’s boutique! Bringing in the newest trends, all while valuing comfort and affordability. We want all of our girls to feel beautiful and their best selves in what they’re wearing. Whether you’re in college, a mama, or a working woman- we’re meant for you!
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
