Hi Shelby, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In 2023, I was diagnosed with my second brain tumor, which led to a condition called acromegaly. During that difficult time, I struggled with intense facial and head pain, and the one thing that brought me true comfort was scalp massage. Not only did it provide me relief, but I also noticed my hair becoming healthier than ever. Once I overcame my second surgery and was in remission from acromegaly, I decided to go back to school and study trichology as this experience had sparked a huge passion. In the fall of 2024, I decided to create Akros, a scalp spa named after “acromegaly”. I specialize in scalp health and wellness, offering treatments that promote hair vitality and deep relaxation. What began as a personal journey of healing has truly become my mission: to help others experience the power of scalp care.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Opening Akros has definitely been an adventure. From perfecting my services to navigating the business side of things, I’ve just embraced every challenge as an opportunity to grow.

As a trichologist and licensed esthetician, I specialize in both scalp care and facials. What sets Akros apart Is my focus on scalp treatments, which go beyond a simple wash to target buildup, dryness, irritation, and even scalp disorders like dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, and hair thinning. I am so proud that Akros has become more than just a scalp spa- it’s a space of healing and transformation. My brand is built on personal experience and a deep understanding of how scalp health impacts overall well-being. I’ve taken something that was once my own source of pain and turned it into a mission to help others feel their best.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I truly believe that being my authentic self and staying true to my passion for scalp care has been the foundation of my success. Akros was born from my own journey, and I believe that sharing my story openly allows me to connect with my clients on a deeper level.
