Exploring Life & Business with ShaWanna Gajewski of Gajewski Homes

Today we’d like to introduce you to ShaWanna Gajewski.

Hi ShaWanna, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been a resident in the Metro Detroit area since 1985. I’m a wife, mother, and a proud grandmother. I earned my BA from University of Michigan and MSA from Walsh College, both concentrations in accounting. For the past 23 years, I held dual careers as an Accountant/Controller while also advancing my profession in the real estate industry. I have over 23 years of various real estate experience. For about 20 years, I held dual careers as an Accountant/Controller in the auto industry while also advancing my profession in the real estate industry as a Licensed Agent and Investor.

In 2003, I started my own company, Gajewski Homes, which provides services such as rehabs and property maintenance, screening tenants, evictions/garnishments, etc. For other investors. After gaining extensive experience and education in the real estate industry, I earned her broker’s license in 2012.

In 2018, I met my amazing husband Steve, and he literally swept me off my feet. It was his support and encouragement that allowed me to grow so much more.

In 2019, I “broke up with Corporate America” and decided to take the leap into real estate full time. Shortly after that, I earned my license as a Residential Builder and added construction to my list of expertise. And yes, I do a lot of the work myself! I enjoy it so much!! I absolutely love transforming houses into beautiful homes for families to enjoy. And if I can knock down a wall or two, even better!!

Every day I wake up and am blessed to do what I love and share my gift to help anybody that I can!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Early in my career, I divorced, and it was difficult attending school to earn my degree, run my own real estate business and work a full-time job in Corporate America, all while being a single mother caring for my children. It took a lot of hard work and dedication to push through these difficult times.

One of the obstacles I’ve encountered is being a woman in the construction industry and having to work harder to earn the same opportunities as my male counterparts.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Gajewski Homes a full services real estate company that provides real estate sales- helping sellers and buyers; property management-including tenant screening, rent collection, etc., and residential construction.

Real estate is my superpower that I use to motivating and help others, especially young adults, to achieve their goals. Whether it’s homeownership, learning skills to renovate homes, managing their finances, etc., I am always willing to offer my expertise to assist others with their real estate needs. I also teach other prospective real estate agents and investors as well.

Gajewski Homes supports the needs of the community through various outreach and nonprofit programs. In addition, we have contributed time, money, and labor to renovate and maintain the buildings that provide these services as well as providing home improvement services to those in need.

The 3-E’s Program, which stands for Encourage, Educate, & Empower, is a mentorship program sponsored by Gajewski Homes in collaboration with other trade professionals to offer construction training for individuals who are interested in learning electrical, drywall, painting, flooring, plumbing, and other renovation projects.

The 3 E’s Program seeks to:

Encourage by building confidence

Educate by providing hands-on training with knowledgeable professionals

Empower by creating internships and job opportunities one construction project at a time.

I also organized and lead a real estate study group to help other prospective agents pass the State Exam to get their real estate license.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My husband is the most considerate and kind person I know. And the way he loves me is just amazing. He is always there to help me juggle my daily task in any way he can. I also give credit to my children, Omari Jr. and Sha-Maria Cook. They both grew up helping work on properties from a very young  age.

Tiara Woody, the Real Estate Sales Assistant, Courtney Epps, the Property Management Assistant, and Jamaul Martin, the Cost Estimator represent the core team that helps make it all happen! They each help to manage each leg of the business, and their hard work and positive energy helps to support the business growth with new and innovative ideas.
