Exploring Life & Business with Shaun & Isabel Drone of F45 Highmeadow

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaun & Isabel Drone. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Both Isabel and Shaun Drone are transplanted to the area. They have both lived in the greater Detroit area for 15 years. Isabel hales from Philadelphia, PA, and Shaun from Akron, OH. They met while they both worked at General Motors. At the beginning of their relationship, physical activity was a prime component of their relationship, and scheduled most activities around it. Shaun played on several recreational league flag football and basketball teams while Isabel was utilizing personal training. 

Once they got married and children came into the picture it became more difficult to schedule time for exercise. Throughout the relationship, Shaun had always been a DJ playing for corporate events, private parties, and fitness events. It was at these fitness sessions that Shaun was introduced to F45. 

Shaun was the DJ for several local F45 studios and also began working out at one studio to transform his dad’s body. Eventually, Isabel tried the workout and loved the ability to move heavyweights. This is just something she does. 

In addition, Isabel was previously employed in the boutique fitness industry which provided a baseline to research other business opportunities. Through her own body transformation, she became energized to help others do the same. 

After a year of being a part of the culture, the interest elevated to the point where investigating franchise costs and locations began to take place. Once They reviewed the business plan with a fine comb, they set off on obtaining funding and finding a location suitable to open their own F45 studio. 

Shaun and Isabel’s goal is to provide a quick and efficient workout to anyone who is pinched for time but wants the highest level of training. F45 High meadow provides personal HIIT (high-intensity interval training) in a group environment. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As most can imagine starting a business during a worldwide pandemic is not an easy task. There were many setbacks and delays that caused the grand opening to move from November 2021 to March 2022. 

The supply chain impacts due to COVID stalled shipping and delivery of our fitness equipment. In addition, the materials slated for our shower had a 14-week delay that caused us to redesign our shower room. 

Locally, we experienced several stoppages in work due to the construction crew being exposed. Safety was our number one priority. 

Lastly, the staffing shortages were not unique to essential businesses. When we initially posted job openings there was a trickle of applicants. This prompted both of us to become NASM certified trainers in the event we were unable to find staffing. 

Even with that F45 High meadow in downtown Farmington opened with loyal foundation Members and a brand-new studio to grow with.
